Easy Fix For VZW After Accidentally Letting Sprint Customization Run
 

So like a lot of people, I misread the instructions about upgrading the radio using the new Sprint ROM and ended up letting the customizations run. I searched extensively through the forums to find an easy fix, but the only one I found was alcatec's fix located here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=30109.

However, that is more complicated and involves more phone calls than I wanted to make. So I searched for an easier fix and found one that worked for me. I can't say it will also work for you, but it did work for me and got my phone back to square one so I could start over with the cooking.

This assumes that you have already run ImCokeMan's new Vogue Unlocker, updated to the Official Sprint ROM with GPS and Rev A and accidentally let the customizations run.

1. I first ran ImCokeMan's .40 Vogue Unlocker since the official Sprint ROM is non GPS.

2. I then flashed to the Original OEM 6.0 Sprint ROM. This restored my radio to 2.13 - not the original 1.60 that VZW uses, but it works anyway because this is also a non-GPS radio. This time, DON'T LET THE CUSTOMIZATIONS RUN!!!!

3. I then ran ImCokeMan's .40 Vogue Unlocker again since the official Sprint ROM had locked it back up.

4. I then upgraded using the VZW dumped ROM. This time, LET the customizations run. As far as I can tell, these customizations will undo what the Sprint customizations screwed up. Since it is dumped, this doesn't include a radio, which is the reason for step 2. If you don't do step 2, you'll brick the phone because you can't use this ROM with the 3.XX radio. However, it's not permanently bricked (as I first did this without step 2). All you have to do is start back from step 2.

5. Dial *228 and press 1 to program the phone. If the programming goes successfully, you should have a completely working phone with no left over side effects that have been reported from the Sprint customizations (always roaming, data connection doesn't work, etc).

I'm not sure if this really undos everything that that the Sprint customizations did, but it undos enough that all appears normal.

nice, i might have to try this for my sprint 6900 that i modded to work on VZW... i can make calls and texts but no internet and always roaming. The VZW customizations on new roms never seem to run..

so what about GPS anyway to get it working?

Once you boot up and run the customizations on the VZW Dumped ROM, you can start over on the reguar flashing instructions to get the GPS/Rev A working, just don't let the Sprint customizations run this time!

Wow, glad to see there is a dump ROM for Verizon now. Getting ready to sell my Touch on eBay and wanted to sell it with the stock stuff on it since cooked ROMs typically don't sell as well.

Hey just one question: should we be using the .40 unlocker or the .41? Would the .41 work? It seems safer to me... but that might be the reason it wont work.

ok i followed your instructions ANNNNND i thought i was in the clear.... no more roaming triangle and i was able to sync with verizon towers, but now i cant make calls/send texts/go onlione... when i try to make a call it says plz hold well send you to someone so you can use a credit card to make a phone call..... so i think it lost my number or authorization akey, maybe??
ne one else have this problem i think it said my phone number was 000 000 5223 or something lol.

oook so i edited the epst to change (000) 000-0025 to my avtual number... *228 got further this time! buut still failed. but this time it went past programming phone, SPL Unlocked OK!

MDN Download OK!
Commit OK
Programming successful! but then the lady says programming failed plz... and then it cuts off because the phone reboots!

So after all of that you still can't make calls? Did you try pressing option 2 instead of option 1?

I will tell you that I got programming failed the first time I tried it at around 4am. So the next afternoon, I called VZW and told them I was trying to program my phone and kept getting programming failed. He basically just had me re-call *228 and press 1 and that time it went through without a hitch. I asked him if he did anything to make it work, but he said he didn't.

It sounds like you have an A-KEY problem. I've never had this issue with any flashing I've done. Maybe someone else around here knows more about this. I think you'll prolly have to call VZW and have them reset it.

guh!!!! no headway... spent an hour on with vzw tech support. they gave me a new AKey, but no go.

when i call it goes "bla bla bla verizon plz hold while we connect you so you can enter a credit card or calling card to complete the call"!!!


So it's like the phone is working but its not being recognized by the network. this sucks. is it cuz the radio version is different?? i dont think so but im running out of ideas. they told me to return the phone for a new one, but im worried that since the radio version is different that theyll charge me. im soooooo close. maybe some other epst settings are messed?? anyone have a similar problem or know the answer??? thanks to everyone for being so patient.

ill try calling again in the morning then... i got a new a-key from vzw, but when it makes me reset and i go back to epst the akey area is blank. is it the same for you??

one more thing: ok so i took my old 6700 out to check it's EPST and i found this:

HDR AN AUTH: my login was still sprint!!!
also something like AAA secret

i tried to change it to my 10 digit phone @ vzw3g.com but it wouldn't let me switch the value!! I guess (???) this is why some forums i said require

maybe this is my problem? i thought the ' hdr an auth' is for data connection only, but i suppose i could be totally wrong...

I got voice and text messages back!!! Turns out my min settings were all f'd up (for some reason they were all my phone number), now with that fixed i have voice and text.... still no data, but i should be getting a dmu reset at some point today. w00t!

so the keys to the story:
1. dont switch esn's to a different phone and leave both on!
2. keep calling tech support until you get someone who isnt retarded.

the guy today helped me manually configure my epst settings over the phone and that did the trick for voice. now i just need a dmu reset (i guess) to get data back and then its back to the kitchen so i can f my **** again! lol... thanks again for everyone's help.

Yes well it seems im having similar problems. I did the steps and it erased some of my settings including somehow rewriting my ESN back to what it was originally! I dont know how thats even possible, where was it stored on my PPC after i erased it?

Well if after i get everything working i no longer roam and/or get internet it will be worth it.


I have a few questions about the steps: one... is it ok to use .41 unlocker or should we use the .40 unlocker? Another, after we install the roms should we let them boot up or should we immediatly go into the dm/serial mode (power + camera button then hit reset) to immediatly install the next rom or let the rom boot and skip the customize on the Sprint?

I used .40 but I don't see why .41 wouldn't work. You don't need to let the OEM Sprint ROM boot at all. You can immediately go into the bootloader mode. If you do let it boot, don't "touch the screen to begin". But you do need to let the VZW Dumped ROM boot so that you can let the customizations run.

I would just use the .40 - I was nervous too, but imcokeman mentions something about the differences in that thread about the keeping the .40 specifically for relocking. it wasnt that bad at all, just follow the instructions and youll be fine. also, your ESN should be the one on your phone if you are relocking it, shouldnt it? also make sure you check your msid and min settings when you are done mine were all f'd. so far its working tho! just waiting for DMU reset to get internet bazck up and running. gluck!

finally, success! dmu reset came after 60 some hours! now i have internet!! BUT i still cant *228!! and im stuck on 1x no evdo! guess ill call vzw tech suport again tomorrow.

alright well after doing this my original ESn was restored so after a few hours of re-setting everything back to the settings i had before i got my phone back! No Re-authentication neccassary! Just a bunch of settings copying and flashing of my old XV6700's 51056 PRL to the 6900.

BUT i'm still roaming and no internet:( This method didnt help me. Also for some reason most roms i download never load up carrier customizations... that stock rom that was posted here did but none of the PPCKitchen built roms, and most of the built roms available for internet dont run customizations after i install.

If the customizations didn't run for you, that would be why you still have roaming and no internet. It looks like you'll have to follow the manual fix instructions for those issues.

I have tried this fix and the radiorefurbish step from the other technique and neither worked for me. When I flashed back to the Verizon dumped ROM the PRI version stayed at 2.04_003. Everything else seems to be setup correctly (ESN is correct, Radio is 2.13.00, PRL is 51101 and ERI is 4). I was able to re-activate my phone on Verizon, and can send and receive calls, but data doesn't work - I get an error code 65. I manually type in my username and password into the connections, but that doesn't work. Any suggestions on reverting back to the correct Verizon PRI?

i remember those days with my v3m. needless to say 5 phones (all running alltel just fine until i decided to play with sku and bitpim) later i have teh env which no one loved in teh modding world. still have it as an oversized pocket phonebook lol, may sell on ebay.

now i have this phone and its roming a plenty lol
