HTC QuickGPS - Locks in under a minute EVERYTIME...After LOTS of reading...

1 Attachment(s)
Good Afternoon,

After playing with HTC QuickGPS on & off over the past month...& after LOTS of reading...I have come across a work around that appears to work.

Install & Run HTC QuickGPS - Click the Download button.

That persistently annoying failed to connect alert will appear after the download has completed.

Navigate to the Temp directory on your device. You will find a file called xtra.bin located there.

Copy xtra.bin to the root directory of the Windows folder on your device.

After re-running HTC QuickGPS it will now show that the data has been updated.

After doing this it appears that I am consistently getting GPS locks in under a minute.

My question is: how can we make it so our devices allow QuickGPS to copy the xtra.bin on its own! Or is there an easier fix that I have overlooked in my research?

Please feel free to share!

1. Are you on Sprint
2. Did you run the ppst?

there is a patched version @ xda-developers that will download the file correctly to the windows folder :D

Heya,

640k: my provider is Bell Mobility up here in Canada!

PapaDocta: Can you please provide a link to the file on xda-developers...I tried a patch I found there earlier but it still did not seem to work for me! Hopefully the one you have come across is different & will for me!

Thanks, Audi2Audi.

Thank you very much. I got it all working. It's great! Helps GPS significantly.

If you have a carrier that has a PPST.exe file, I don't think QuickGPS will help at all since GPS works great after running that file.

MindFrost82, do you have data plan or vision plan with Sprint? I don't have any data or vision plan, so I do get GPS locked in, but it will not give IGuidance enough data to give me turn-by-turn direction.
I did run PPST, but it didn't help much. When I connect my phone to the computer, then I'll get a lock within 30 secs inside the house. It doesn't run good on the road at all.
