An interesting experience yesterday. Apologies if already posted.

I had been using my Touch as primary phone, until I got my Treo 800w (a free swap for my old Mogul). So I did an online ESN swap to my Treo.

So, while my Touch was de-activated, I installed the new ROM, installed Garmin XT, and Garmin works just fine with the onboard GPS receiver using the Intermediate GPS driver.

Must be just enough network connection remaining for GPS to work. I've always noticed that a de-activated phone still gets voicemail alerts...

How quickly do you get a lock? -- Network activity isn't necessary unless you want to get A-GPS to work. So far, I haven't seen any proof that it TRULY works anyways...

So you should be good to go... Pretty small full-featured GPS device, eh? :)

Well, first and most important than anythin else, I'm a SHE :protest:

And what I did was just ran a lot of crap (like the Assisted cab) to "inaugurate" my GPS module. After that (hard reset) I just needed to conserve the Holux GPSViewer to warm the module up since it takes a long time to start finding/locking sats (we are talking about minutes here).

BTW, I can use Holux to warm and (sort of) save the sats to cache. Then GPS apps won't take that long to lock. I would like to use QuickGPS but it always sends an error-download msg.

I know my GPS sucks but at least I found a way to make it work.

PS: Is there any thread dedicated to the use of the Holux GPS Viewer? it helps but I don't fully understand how exactly do those cold/warm/hot buttons work and affect the results.

Thanks.

Someone probably already already said this before and I missed it... but is there somewhere I can still find this assisted cab?

I'm not using Sprint network (I'm with a different carrier) and didn't notice any difference by running that mod; either by letting the initial Sprint customizations to run after a hard reset. Obviously I'm talking specifically about the GPS.

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

I'm a noob to the Sprint Vogue so sorry if I missed a post somewhere concerning this. I tried looking back...

I just got the Touch and upgraded to the official 6.1 ROM. I have noticed that sometimes with the GPS it locks in less than 5 seconds but then other times I need to soft reset my phone before I can get a lock.

Is this normal? Did I get a defective GPS receiver in the phone? Should I go ahead and install the Assisted GPC hack.cab to help with this (i.e. should I still be having problems since I have the newest official ROM)?

If it is normal to have issues with GPS is this an issue that happens on all phones with GPS or just the Touch to the best of anyones knowledge?

Thanks for the help.

A few coworkers have told me they have similiar problems with the HTC mogul. So I guess this is a common issue. I guess I should try the assisted gps hack and see if it improves.

Actually the only settings this will change for me is the GPSMode = 4.... everything else I have is the same.
