BRLE Vogue Kitchen AKU.0.7.0 [001]

This is my second attempt at making a Vogue Kitchen. The first was released on HowardForums for cricKet users.

This kitchen is based off of XIP Ported CE OS 5.2.1933 Build 18533.0.7.0. It can be used to build ROMs for the following carriers: Alltel, cricKet, Sprint, Generic.

http://thumb3.webshots.net/t/69/169/...3TsraTa_th.jpg http://thumb3.webshots.net/t/24/665/...3LBXFZg_th.jpg

I tried to find a happy medium for the pagepool and set it at 12MB. You can change the pagepool before you flash if you'd like. Raising the pagepool to say 16MB would increase the speed of the phone but would cause you to have less program memory. Just use the tool included in the RUU folder.

What is included:
Upgrade drivers and XIP to 1.17 ship rom
Upgrade base to CE OS 5.2.1933 Build 18533.0.7.0
Adobe Flash Player 7

Some big THANK YOUs to:
- Amoamare for his work on the Apache's cricKet extended ROM and for working to get cricKet customizations added to the Apache kitchen
- DogGuy at PPCGeeks for his work on the 6800 kitchen and answering my questions as I worked on the Vogue Kitchen based on 1.12.651.1 Sprint ROM
- Everyone DogGuy thanked for helping him get his kitchen up and running
- Sfaure at PPCGeeks for his work on the Bluetooth stack
- dcd1182 at xda-developers for his excellent work on XIP Porting of the updated CE OS and bearing with all my questions
- to0 at HowardForums for his excellent input/support and work on the serial program and his two ROMs
- jammis, berry_lthird, and jimska78 at HowardForums for helping me test the Vogue ROMs/Kitchen when I didn’t even own a Vogue which gave me a much better overall understanding of ROM/Kitchen development
-my wife's poor phone and all the abuse it took :P (i kept "borrowing" it from her at night)
-everyone else on these forums for your input and support

DISCLAIMER: As with any other custom ROM/Kitchen, there is a risk of damaging your device. I offer no warranties in the event this happens. Please do realize, however, that there haven't been any permanent casualties reported. So far, the worst that has been reported is getting stuck in bootloader mode (multi-color screen). If this happens to you, don't freak out. Head over to PPCGeeks, and read this: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9229. If you're unable to get past a specific splash screen, you may need to manually put your device into bootloader mode and install a different ROM.

A Stock Sprint Ship ROM can be found here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/75057744...NV133_Ship.exe

Your phone will need to be unlocked using the Vogue Unlocker by ImCoKeMaN of PPCGeeks. This will allow you to flash custom ROMs. Please don't PM me asking how to use this. If you don't know, you probably shouldn't be doing this.
ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks....e_unlocker.exe

Now that that's out of the way... here's the link; you'll need WinRAR:
ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks....0_01212008.zip

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTE: You will be prompted for a serial once you install and boot into any ROM made from this kitchen. You will not be able to do anything without a serial (aside from flash a new ROM).

Here's how the serial process works: You'll be shown a code when you first boot. Send that code to the email displayed on your phone screen and I'll send you a corresponding serial to unlock the ROM.

I will give out one free serial per ROM per username on HowardForums, XDA-dev, or PPCGeeks.
This is more a test of something to0 and I have been playing with rather than anything for profit as well as preventing people from selling our work. In order to obtain a serial, you must have at least 15 posts, with the majority of them being at least a little bit constructive. Serials will not change as long as you keep the same phone number so write them down for future use.

I seem to have broken the ##3424 code in some aspects of this build but not for all carriers. I will work on it and hopefully post an update in a couple days. In the meantime, make sure you change your SPC and configure your MDN MIN and all other EPST settings before flashing if you haven't done so already. ##778 and all other codes work.

I will be around if you need a code. PLEASE NO PMs. Only email the address displayed on your phone screen or use the contact info below. Or you can contact to0 (aka mooingrhinocero in the cricKet section of HowardForums for a Vogue code)

AIM: mrfluffball
AIM: to0g
Hofo: mooingrhinocero

If you choose a carrier autorun, your serial may try to run at the same time. Don't worry about it. Just let your autorun finish and it will auto soft-reset for you. If you don't have an autorun, just tap the "OK" and the device will reset.

Make sure to use ReadMe.pdf and Enjoy Flashing with the Vogue Kitchen!! If you change your pagepool, please leave feedback in a couple days so we can compare results. Amoamare, I'd love to include your cricKet theme if it's finished and you are willing to share. Please let me know. dcd1182 and sd_matto, if you have any suggestions or feedback I would be grateful for them. Please post any bugs and if you have an OEM you would like me to test and include in the next build please let me know. I will be working on cleaning up the Sprint and Alltel junk this week and at some point creating support for Bell and Telus ROMs. If anyone who is well versed in ROM building wishes to assist me, I would welcome the help.

sweet.....downloading now

intalling now!!!

98classic 01-22-2008 11:13 AM

looks good will test it out and let you know.

edit1: when compiling the OS and htc dual action screen is selected, it sets off an error "temp\dump\AL_Bkgd.brn already exist" even if you clear out the temp dir manually it'll still give you the error untill you deselect the htc dual action screen. compiling now let you know if i see any other problems.

soundworkspr 01-22-2008 11:37 AM

whats this code thing all about ?

to0 and I are from HowardForums. We were playing around with a serial program that we wrote for our ROMs because people we selling our ROMs. It's our intention that this community be able to enjoy the ROMs but we didn't think others should be selling ROMs especially beta copies.

This is just a test. As stated in the first post, not looking for compensation as a result of it. Just tinkering with an idea. Basically each code is unique to each combination of phones and phone numbers. From that code, we can generate a serial to unlock the ROM for use. I'm around and have AIM on my phone so can pretty much get a serial out immediately. Also, to0 is available most times as well.

That file is in each of the following three folders. You must have selected a home plugin and the action screen together hence the conflict.

OEM_brle_Cube_Icons_Blue
OEM_brle_Cube_Icons_Yellow
OEM_HTC_Action_Screen

Just manually delete that file from one of the folders either Blue/Screen or Yellow/Screen before you flash or delete it from all three and place it in OEMAPPS. I'll move it back to the OEMAPPS folder for next time.

slypher 01-22-2008 10:30 PM

WOW, i'm impressed. I'll be testing this out on the weekend :-D Thanks for the kitchen!!

yeah...I know there's a workaround. :P it was a test anyways.

the code is generated based on everyone's MDN so it is unique to each phone/phone# and stays with the phone. if you used a workaround, when you reset, it will probably pop up again.

any comments/complaints/tweaks that need to be added?

Thank you blee0125 for your work, its much appreciated.

Peace Polar

Polar mentioned a good idea in a PM actually. I don't know if it'll be this way in the future but I know for now since my code is based off the MDN, I guess you guys could send me your MDN's in advance to get your serials before you flash just in case I'm not on when you flash.

There shouldn't be any MAJOR bugs. I ran it on both Sprint and cricKet for about 3 days apiece at 16MB pagepool with numerous combinations of apps and didn't find myself soft resetting a lot. My wife is running it on her Touch right now as well. Sprint Powerdeck in PIE seems to not recognize the phone anymore though and Client Initiated IOTA seems to fail although EvDO, MMS, and PIE all work fine for me.

::EDIT:: Do you guys use Sprint programs much..I'm referring to things like Sprint TV, Mobile Email, OZ IM in particular. Also, don't know if you noticed but I set up something in the kitchen called "Generic Autorun." Basically you can drag whatever cabs you want in there, write your own config.txt and run that instead of the default Sprint or Alltel autoruns. You can they select that OEM in conjunction with the Sprint/Alltel carrier customize which handles your IOTA and WAP/MMS settings.

been running it for a day now, and i havent found any problems or bugs, the only installs i've done are ppcgeeksmms, spb mobile shell, pcm contacs. other than that everything is running find out of the box.

Sorry to be such a noob, but I searched (XDA) and can't find out what a kitchen is or how to use one. Can someone link me a good starter article/thread? Thx.

Matt

A kitchen is basically where you can pick and choose what programs and other critical components you want in a ROM. It allows you to customize your ROM to your liking rather than just using it out of the box from the carrier. Sometimes, you may not like programs say Sprint included. For example if you are on Sprint and like the Mobile Email and OZ IM but don't use Sprint TV, then in a kitchen you might be able to remove just the Sprint TV while keeping the other two programs.

You can also add aftermarket programs and have them burned into your ROM rather than have to install by CAB later on. This saves you space to use for other items.

You might try reading this thread for basic knowledge. It was written by BigJ for the PPC-6700 Apache but much is similar information.

Kitchen is great...

So far a couple of problems...

One was already mentioned but PIE for Sprint doesn't recognize my device on the homepage. Not a big deal though.

The other problem (and if anyone else has had it please share) is Sprint TV doesn't work on my device. It says every channel is unavailable. Error code 7000 I believe?

98classic 01-23-2008 11:18 AM

the only thing I'm noticing today is the battery drain, its down to 60% in about three hours and a half.only made about 5 one minute calls. not really sure what is the problem since I reloaded last night

fowen 01-23-2008 01:08 PM

I reloaded my rom yesterday and I am very happy with it. I bumped the pagepool up to 18MB and the device is much faster then the stock rom. Bluetooth volume is better and so far I have not had the random phone pad popping up or no notifications when the phone was in standby like I did with the stock rom.

I know I will be playing with the kitchen over the next week! Thanks!

You are the second person to mention that to me. No complaints from the people who have built cricket roms only sprint side it seems.

I made some registry changes for battery life. I'll post what I did later. I took most of the hacks from the mogul but if they don't work for you try editing it. If you installed dotfred task manager it comes with a reg editor. If not, phm is free to use and comes in a cab format.

Can I get some confirmation from some other users as to whether this is a problem and what settings work best for you. If so, I'll edit and add to rev 2.

Sprint TV in general it seems has been tempermental. That being said..I got it to work except for the Disney Channels. I know that because my 2 y/o son tried to watch it in the car the other day. But it seems to be hit or miss. Every other day or so, I get that 7000 error code and even the welcome movie won't play.

JacobWW60 01-23-2008 03:21 PM

Did you do anything to make Sprint TV work? Or is it just something where you have to wait and see if it comes on or not?

98classic 01-23-2008 04:17 PM

yea sprint tv seems to have a problem I don't use it so I don't mind. on the sprint mail side it doesn't seem to work either, also noticed the phone runs hot might be something running that drains the battery and keeps it warm. clicked dot fred app on the kitchen but I can't seem to find it. I'll look into it later

EtrnlWolf 01-23-2008 05:43 PM

Would I be able to replace the base ROM from this with my Bell ROM and then do some cooking? Bell rom starts cleaner than the sprint one I think so I wouldn't have to remove the extra stuff first.

I have the most recent bell ROM extracted ( at home ) so I would hope I could just replace the ROM,SYS,OEM folder with the bell versions or something?

I'm at work so can't test it out myself at this point....

I was noticing many delays on the stock rom. I had to disable the sound from the dialer because of the delays when I pushed a key were annoying but with this rom the delay isn't there.

I no longer see a delay in the start menu or other buttons like I did in the past. Also, the cube runs much faster.

The bluetooth volume seems louder, the dialer pad doesn't randomly popup when I am closing programs and so far I haven't gotten any missed notifications while the device is in standby.

The only problem I have started to have with the new rom that I didn't get in my old rom is when I wake up in the morning and take the Touch off of the charger my bluetooth has been turned off.

JacobWW60 01-24-2008 12:20 PM

But how much program memory does putting the page pool at 18 mb chew up?

I stayed with the 12 mb page pool and as soon as my device is reset I'm already running at about 45%, and a few minutes later 50% at least.

w4z4r1 01-24-2008 02:22 PM

I don't have enough posts

Hey, I'd love to try the new kitchen as my Touch has taken a turn for the slowwwwww. I just lack enough posts to satisfy your requirements to recieve a Key once I load the rom.

Just wondering if you'd take pitty on a lowly not so many posts guy. Puhleeeeeez!! ;)

If not I'll try and run around and be helpfull real quick.

Thanks!

Can someone confirm this?

Also, I think I may have found out what's causing certain dialer codes to have issues. I will try to play around with a different set of drivers in the next build and see if this solves it. As for Powerdeck not recognizing the phone, I've been talking to DogGuy and am taking a look at his browsing.dll module and provxml files to see if I missed any settings or need to make any adjustments to make sure carrier settings are not being overwritten.

JacobWW60 01-25-2008 02:38 PM

Any word on what the issue may be with Sprint TV? I guess a lot of you don't use it, but it's just another feature that I'd like to have working on my phone.

I re flashed with a page pool of 16 mb instead of 12 mb and I can definitely say the device is faster. It chews up about half my program memory, but it's definitely quicker.

No offense, but until you find another method to unlock the kitchen i will not use it or just rip out the folders that are used to lock the rom.

No ESNs are ever required. I would be nervous about giving that info out too. Also, unless people are giving out their MDNs to get unlocked before flashing, I don't have it. It's all just written into a keygen that I plug the code into.

I'm looking for another method but I'm also heavily leaning to just pulling it out of the kitchen altogether. It was just something I was curious to try and gauge responses on. I think I've been pretty good about getting people their serials within 20 minutes of hearing from them but it's kinda becoming a burden on me too. If you guys can help me weed out the few that try to ruin it for everyone by selling ROMs made from the kitchnes in general, I think I'm pretty comfortable just eliminating the serials although I would be curious to learn of other ways to implement something like that (for my own curiousity).

jim2561 01-27-2008 03:25 AM

i dont know if anyone else has noticed this, or if its specific to my rom, but for sprint the cube seems...unfinished. the icons and captions for each tile dont match. ie for "Mailbox" it shows the May 15 calendar icon, and the sms and software store icons arent right either. the IM isnt quite right..but its close enough.

i guess a cube configurtion tool will have to do for now.

aslo, i was unable to get TCPMP to play flv's despite the fact i had included the flashvideobundle as well as tcpmp in my rom. i tried reinstalling both, but to no avail. i also went into tcpmp's file association settings, and looked where flv normally was, but it was missing.

thanks.

How we weed out the few who are silly enough to buy free roms ?

fowen 01-30-2008 06:12 PM

I flashed to DCD's rom yesterday since I experienced some small quirks after installing all my programs but after a days use I am back to this kitchen. I had more problems in the day I used his ROM then I did for the almost week I was using this one. I know they are based on the same port but you can tell the customizations you put in helped quite a bit.

I did have some battery life issues with the DCD rom that I haven't experienced with this kitchen that I hope do not surface (since I have seen a few users complain about it here).

I tried to make the rom as slimlined as possible and brought the page pool down to 14MB from 16MB I originally had it set to. I will report back my findings.

blee0125 01-30-2008 11:34 PM

Thanks fowen. Your feedback is appreciated. Sorry for being absentee for awhile. Been swamped with buying cars. I have a car dealership. Spent a lot of time at the auctions this week buying cars for people.

Have you built an unbootable ROM yet by chance? I've only heard of 1-2 people doing that. Seems that everyone else is doing ok. I've issued close to 150 serials now but haven't had much feedback in any of the threads. I like 16MB pagepool personally although 14MB also seems like a decent compromise.

Any results on battery life hacks. I haven't played with it enough myself to find a setting I love. But it seems that everyone has their own opinion of what reg hack is best. If you guys can come to some consensus, I'll include it next time.

fowen 01-30-2008 11:43 PM

I have never built a non bootable rom. I have flashed the device three times.

I personally don't use the battery hacks. There has to be something negative about doing them and if I don't know what that is, I will stick with the stock settings.

i have built quite a few unbootable ROMs so far, if you check out imcokemans vogue unocker forum, or my "bricked my vogue" thread (didnt know about the camera power bootloader entry mode :S) you can see a TINY bit of documentation from me about them, but not really anything conclusive. oemizer does seem to be sort of unstable/picky however; i was not getting buildos to play very well with it.

im not sure which pagepool is best right now though. not noticing a whole lot of difference...anyone want to comment on their results?

i have tried 4, 16, 17, 18, and 36. but to be honest, not much difference has seemed apparent to me, except perhaps on the 4mb one -- seemed slow.

thx a lot for your work!

heres the XIP and SYS if you can import them in.

Are these from the Hermes? Or is the XIP ported for the Vogue already?

I'm also out of town at the moment. Will be back Tuesday. Don't know how much time I'll have to play with this. This is a very addicting and time consuming hobby ;)
