How to turn screen off

when i'm streaming pandora, i would like to turn the screen off, to save battery, all that happens is the backlight turns off after 40 secs per the settings, and if i hit the power button on top it stops streaming. i am on sprints stock rom, waiting for juicy 9, and i remember with custom roms i could hit the power button and it would keep streaming. any suggestions?

use "slide to shutdown" it has display off option and works from power button.

no problem, if it dont theres another way but i gota remember what it was,i know, i remaped a sbottom hardbutton to do it.

Ya i couldnt get this to work in pandora or groove shark. it would turn the display off then immediately right back on. are there any settings or something im missing
