I would love a TP2 but my TP is fine and always has been. I can understand people who are frustrated with their handset, as I went through a simular ordeal with the Mogul, but you have to have really bad luck to be on your third or fourth TP handset. It seems like a much more solid device than the Mogul all around.

I really would love a TP2 though, if not just for the killer keyboard and the introduction of a real headphone jack! Oh well. Maybe when my TP breaks they'll really have something new to give me that's not going to inherit a lot of the same problems as I imagine the TP2 may.

C'mon... it's not because of us on the forums. We probably don't even make up 1% of all the TP/TP2 users that Sprint has. In all the Moguls, Touch Pro1/2's I've seen out in the wild... I've never seen one person have anything other the plain jane stock programs on them. Also the same on other carrier phones of similar type. So we are far and few between in the pool of TP's.

just to clear up one point that i made earlier, the folks that's paying asurion are not the scammers, just those that make up stuff just to get a free upgrade. those are the scammers.

If their phone still works, then they're committing a form of insurance fraud. It's still a scam, even if they pay a deductible. False claims are one of the reasons why Asurion's deductible went from $50 to $100. And just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting earlier that everyone in this thread was scamming Sprint or Asurion, just that a lot of people are. I'm not even passing judgment, but if you're going to call people out for it, be fair. I know I've been tempted to dunk my phone in a bath when I hear Asurion is out of Touch Pros, but I haven't yet :P

i'm not going to argue, just pointing out some things. you quoted what i said to the scammer that proudly posted that they pulled off a successful scam. it is those people that makes the insurance rates go up. i've read this thread since day one, everyone who has posted like this jr character has been flamed, and rightly so. did they actually think people were going to side with them over that nonsense? there are people with real problems that probably feel like pulling a scam because they can't get help. that dude didn't have a problem and said so, they just wanted something for nothing. it it will come at the honest peoples' expense.

Well to be honest I don't know anyone with a Touch Pro that doesn't have problems. I had 8 of them within like 8-9 months. Maybe more... I lost count. The people at the Sprint store knew me well. The only one that lasted a the longest was the original, but the "oil slick" on the screen got me. Called Sprint this morning to pay the bill and Rep asked me if I was having any issues with my TP. I told them yes and so was my Wife's TP. (She's constantly complaining about the usual issues, Freezing, Overheating, etc. I just chose to deal with it on mine until I had cash for the deductibles for both) Long story short, I said yes, they transferred me to Tech Support, explained the issues on both, he gave replacement options, I chose TP2's for both, no deductibles for either...

FINALLY!! After being on my 4th TP replacement I just called Sprint and after 30min I got transfered to Tech Support, told them the issues of my phone freezing and overheating and they read off the list of replacement phones for my TP and the TP2 was FINALLY on the list! Its being sent out tomorrow no fees!

Persistence pays off and sure as hell beats spending $300+ on a new TP2!

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Well, I'm in Michigan, Detroit area... I was on my 3rd tp and have had this forum open for the past month or so, reading and reading other people's stories. Well, I tried calling in, didn't work... Went to the local sprint repair shop, they also were showing on the warehouse that their was no stock available for the tp2, bla bla bla, same kind of story as many of the people above. The guy at the sprint repair was pretty straight forward and helpful. He said to check with him daily to see if the warehouse had any stock to come in.

He was upfront with me and said, the phone is a possible free upgrade, but it's such a reliable phone that they rarely have any in the warehouse. After roughly a month of calling every other day, he said, I got good news for you, we finally got one in for you. So hello TP2, persistence, politeness, and patience is key in the process. Think about it this way, you are going to get one, just maybe not for a little while, get the process rolling along and good luck to all those still trying to get it!

Wow, I really wish I would have seen this a long time ago...

Are people still successful with this? Can we do it via the online method that worked previously? My phone is decent, but it's had the annoying oil slick on the screen for forever now and the keyboard tends to double type letters sporatically... Don't want to mess with a refurb phone though, a TP2 I would definitely put up with the hassle for though

Well as long as you dont go to the repair center Sprint will replace with the TP2 brand new. Idk why but repair centers always try to give you crap phones or fix it but at an official sprint store they just send you a Pre, Tp2 or Snap immediately in my experience

Really? I will have to give it a shot then. Just go in and talk to them and did you ask what phones they could ship back to you?

Just got off the phone with Tech support. My TP hard reset and then locked at the "Touch Pro" radio screen. They offered me the TP, TP2, Snap and Curve for replacement. My TP2 should be here next week (email said 2-3 business days for home delivery). Hope it's a NIB w/ accessories.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

I just called Sprint about my phone, and was told there's a three-phone swap-out rule. In other words, you have to go through three phones before they'll exchange for a different phone model. I was offered a variety of things (as noted above), but NO TP2. When I asked about the TP2, the guy I talked with said the TP2 is not being offered as a replacement. So, I'll see what happens..the new phone should be to me by Monday. If it's a new TP1 that works properly, I'll be happy (although I've lost my InvisiShield on the old phone!). If I get a new TP2, I'll be **REALLY** happy!

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Update: The guy from Sprint called me back on my cell, said he checked with his "manager" and found they can send a NIB TP2 (he said it was not a refurb) to me, and wanted to make sure that's what I wanted, instead of a replacement TP1. We'll see what it looks like when I get it! :-)

Ok, My Mogul is on file for claim. I have 60 days to complete the claim. I check everyday to see what do they offer at the moment. They been offering TP to for the past 2 days. I checked this morning and they have a Mogul in stock. HTC 6800. A Mogul in stock!!! WTF is this? Is Mogul ever gonna die?:laughing6::laughing6::laughing6:

Well, gotta be patient and wait some more.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Update: Got both TP2's today. One was NIB the other looks like a refurb or something cause it arrived in a smaller box, with no charger, no storage card, no SIM card, etc. Called Sprint up and was transferred to Tech Support. Explained that if I'm recieving an upgraded phone as a replacement, why is it a Refurb, since I've never had this model before?

CSR was very nice but couldn't find a suitable answer, told me she would notate the account and directed me to take it to the nearest Sprint store to swap for NIB.

Guess what's the first thing on my agenda tommorow? LOLz!!

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Sharing my success story, hopefully I can help others.

To start, I had my original Touch Pro (first ones off the line, right when they came out) replaced with a refurb. one because of chrome cracking issues. The replacement operated fine for a while, but it would overheat, I would miss calls because when someone called it would freeze, and the keyboard would type sporadic crap that I wasn't even typing sometimes (lots of lag too). I called 2-3 months ago when this thread opened but success level had died down. I explained my problems and they told me they would replace it with another touch pro, bb curve, pre, snap, blah blah but no TP2. I told them I wanted the TP2 they said too bad.

Today, I read peoples successes so I decided to call again since my TP is just driving me bonkers, and I hear how happy everyone is with their TP2 (makes me sick). I called Technical Support Tier 2: 888-211-4727, however I don't think it was really "technical support" since it was the same crappy menu (1-5 what is your problem). The lady answered VERY QUICKLY FLUENT in English. I emphasize this because my pass experience has been with outsourced customer service along with 20 min wait time. She answered, "employee service customer service" ... shocked I said I'm not sure how I got here I was looking for technical support (I have SERO btw, so maybe when I entered my number they put me to employee service). I explained my issue to her and she said she would gladly transfer me to tech support ... I rolled my eyes and thanked her. Again the transfer took all but 30 seconds (NO WAITING) and I talked to Krysta another English fluent customer service representative. She asked "what's wrong with the phone?", I told her I had issues 3 months ago and was offered a replacement phone for my issues (listed the issues). However, the phone choices back then were not satisfactory so I decided not to waste anyone's time or money; I'm calling back to see if their offering anything new this year. She said she was sorry but the only thing they could do was offer me advanced replacement which would get me a refurbished phone. I said I would gladly take a refurb phone since my current touch pro was refurbed by them as well, as long as I was upgraded and not getting another TP. She told me to hold while she processed the A-ticket. At this point she did a lot of typing and not a lot of talking, so much quiet that I thought I had the all too similar Sprint hung up on me. I asked if she was still there and she said yes, please standby while I figure out how to process your a-ticket. She asked what address I wanted to ship my replacement to, I said can you tell me what you're shipping me before you process it, she said no because she won't see the options until later. I said ok and she asked for a couple minutes for manager approval, I held. She came back and listed A LOT OF OPTIONS ... TP, Pre, Snap, BB Curve, TP2, Infernal, blah blah blah ... I quickly said TP2 please. She said ok, told me I should be receiving an e-mail confirming everything. I did ... so now I wait and see what comes!!!

Good luck all. Things I learned from today and the past failures. I was nice an polite. I recommend using the number I provided. I recommend being persistent, but don't call everyday or even every week because they makes notes every time you call (previously they said are you calling for the same reason you did yesterday?).

IF Sprint follows through and sends me the TP2, I would say I'm a satisfied customer. I started with SERO '07 HTC Mogul, bought myself the Touch Pro using a 2 year upgrade after 1 year of having the Mogul ... how I don't know but it was done through Best Buy. I've had the TP for over a year and now they're replacing it because they know it's bad. I hope they keep their customer service like I experienced today ... fast, english speaking, and helpful.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Well folks, I've decided to try my hand again... after basically being refused service at the repair center (see my post a few pages back), I decided to call *2 Customer Service. I used the menu to get to tech support. Just like stook, I was transferred to a US-based call center and a very helpful rep. At first, after detailing my issues (intermittent keyboard, overheats while charging, etc) he said that this is a device issue and would need to be taken to the store. I then explained that when I took it to the store, they basically refused to even look at it, claiming that ALL phones get hot if used while charging (which I knew was B.S. considering I've never had that happen and have had has various cell phones for the last 10 years, 5 of which have been with Sprint)... He said they can do an Advanced Exchange but that he would have to have his manager sign off on it, so he took all my info (again like stook said, a lot of typing and not a lot of talking) and said once his manager looks it over he will call me back... here's hoping they'll offer to upgrade me... I will update here once I hear back from them.

My keyboard is toast. Called Sprint about my brand new Touch Pro I got in June. First tech support says I can't do anymore exchanges this year. I said I haven't done any at all. They transfer me to another person who said Sprint doesn't do anything on those phones it's got to be HTC. She then said being this is a known issue they could give me a Razor or Lotus free of charge. I said really, do you even know the difference between what I have and what you just offered me. She said the Lotus is a smart phone. My local repair store that is non Sprint but is the official one says they can't do anything with Touch Pro's but for $50 I can get a pre. This is a joke what do I do now. My keyboard is toast.

If its less than a year old, then whoever told you that you can go thru HTC is correct. HTC offers a 1 year warranty on the device... now, whether they'll give u a TP2 or not, I have no clue, but give them a call... if nothing else you'll at least get a working TP...

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Glad you tried again Abrigham. I would have never gotten off the line with them though, Sprint almost NEVER calls back (maybe the new improved customer service will) ... and in my experience the time they do call back, they call once from a weird number like 8310 that you can't return the call to if you miss it.

I had them return a call to my TP once ... I tried to answer but it froze ... go figure.

Good luck all!

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Just got off the phone with tech support. I was having the freezing caller ID problem and keyboard issues. After a few minutes of them telling me to reprogram the phone and soft reset, they told me to take the phone into a store. Lucky for me the island I live on doesn't have any sprint stores and I told them that, so they offered to replace my phone with a TP2, Pre, Snap, Curve, or Treo Pro. Told them I wanted a TP2, they confirmed my address and contact number, and said it would be on it's way.

20 minutes later the same lady called me back and gave me an order number. I asked her if it was refurb, and she said that it was considered an "upgrade" and it would be NIB.

Also, I don't think it matters how many times you've had your TP replaced. I'm still using my original TP that I bought on the release date and they exchanged it no prob.

I was actually impressed with Sprint customer service for once. I'm glad they did the right thing and chose to replace this buggy phone instead of telling all of us that paid $600 that we have to deal with it or pay for a new phone.

Well, I never got a call back (although, the guy did say he may not be able to call me back until this morning and it's still morning)... I did however get an e-mail order confirmation... and it was for another TP :-/ oh well, we'll see... if it is another TP, I'm going to plug it in and run pandora or something like that and as soon as I see it stop charging, I'm calling back... lol... my concern in getting another TP, is that it will be worse than the one I have now... I'm actually still on my original TP and other than the overheat issue, i've had very little problems with it and I don't want one that's going to have more problems...

Same experience as I had. My oil slick TP lasted the longest, but eventually that started to overheat. Each replacement lasted 2-3 weeks at best. All overheated, locked-up, lost EVDO signals, bluetooth problems, etc. Anyway, I feel very fortunate as the store and the CS reps on the phone worked together to get me a Samsung Moment to replace my TP. I love the Moment. I miss the ultra customization of WM, but Android is a speedy and fantastic OS.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

I just recently called CS and got no help what at all. I have been to 4 stores within my area and get the worst customer service ever. I have the same problems as everyone else overheating, freezing on incoming call screen, limited battery after charging. I have gone through CS before and they have been able to send me out a refurb in the past with other phones. Today was no different called because I have to have my phone on the charger to use at all and want to get it taken care of. Called CS and was given a run around and told they hae changed policies and are unable to send phones out without haveing them being checked out by a service center. I told the CS rep that I feel that I do not receive the customer service I deserve while in store. My experiences so far have been horrible in Sprint stores employees messing with thier phones, having personal conversations while helping me, telling the reps whats going on with my phone to only have them check the battery. I do not know what to do but refuse to goto a Sprint store.

i just called today because the keyboard stopped working again. ive had this one for 2 days only. they said they would send me out a nib touch pro to replace this refurb. So hopefully it will be better!!! My first one was awesome, untill the oil slick appeared, then the screen completelly went blank with just a small green bar at the bottom, and was unusable. The replacement lasted about a month, and then keyboard stopped working, this last one lasted 2 days and the keyboard is shot again. Hoping the new one will be as good as my first one!!!

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Ok let me share with you all my story.

I have a Sero account with sprint and have had it since 2006.

I got a HTC touch pro 1 NIB back in May of 2009. It took about 1 month for the keyboard issues to pop up. I was going to replace it, but it started to work again. The keyboard issue would pop up now and again and I would use the press the space button trick and it would usually work. Fast forward to Sept of 2009. Something happened to my phone where I kept getting the same text messages over and over again. I must have gotten the same text 500 times, but it did not register on my account so I knew it was a phone glitch. I reset the phone and it did not solve the problem. Instead I reactivated my Treo 755P, texting stopped when I opted out of getting the texts.

Ok then a week later, I broke the treo touch screen and decided to reactive my TP. The TP worked for less than a day and the keyboard went out. The space bar trick no longer worked. Went to the local sprint repair shop and they declared the keyboard broken and offered a refribed one, BB Curve, BB Tour, Treo Pro, HTC Snap and then mentioned the TP2. I jumped for the TP2 but it was out of stock. The CSR told me that there have been so many TP coming back that Sprint stopped offering them. I ordered the Treo Pro and went home. Thinking about it, I decided not to get the treo Pro and told them to cancel my order.

Ok went back to Treo 755P. Went back to repair shop on 12-24-09, to see if I could get the touch pro 2. Still not in stock, this time ordered a Palm Pre. I know cant use it with sero, but was thinking about leaving Sero. Then changed my mind and had them send the phone back to Sprint. A week later, I went back and tried to get a BB tour I figured that I could live with the $10 BIS and my wife could use it on her Sero account. Mind you they had offered me this phone 2 times now. Guess what BB tour no longer being offered. They offered me a Curve? Come on now that a 2+ year old phone.

Called today got tech support and asked if I could have a TP2. It was already noted that they had offered it to me back in October but not in stock. The CSR names Yolanda indicated that there were a bunch of people wanting the TP2 at this time and TP people thinking that it was the only compariable phone. She indicated that the HTC Snap was of a like phone. I know this phone is not in the same league as either the TP or TP2. I let her speak and was very nice to her. She put me on hold and then told me that she had noted my file and would be sending me a NIB Touch Pro 2 to me. Got my confirmation number and email.

I guess being patient and nice works out for the best. Again, if they offered be a Tour the last time I went into the repair shop, like they did the 1st 2 times, I would have been 100% happy.

Oh I forgot to add I have no insurance on the phone and my build date was in 3-09.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

I just called # provided by stook and told them about heating issue. The 1st lady asked me to go thru Asurion since I have TEP on my account and I bought this from someone else and not thru Sprint. Then I asked her whether she is aware of this issue with the phone. She said that lot of phones have one or the other issue. Then I politely ask her whether she will be able to give it a try to rectify this issue. She said that only tech. support people should be able to do it and transferred me to the tech support. Person over @ Tech support was very nice and listened to my issue and said rest of the issues (freezing and non working keyboard) seems to be normal but overheating issue is dangerous and let me see whether he can replace the phone. After brief hold he started confirming my address sending replacement phone. I asked him about the replacement phone. He said that hold on a second as he is not able to see that info. right now. After confirming my address he told me that it's showing many different options (BB Curve, Snap, Pre, TP2) please let me know which one I should order. I said, I guess Pre is not compatible with my calling plan. He said that he is not aware of any such limitations and asked me to go with TP2 as he wouldn't recommend any other phone (surprise, I know) and he did not hear any complaints with TP2. I said okay I will have TP2 since I am Windows Mobile guy for many years. He then gave me my ticket number and said it would be shipped overnight. I asked him whether it will be a new one or refurb? He said, most probably it will be a refurb with the kit (with battery and other accessories). I hope I get it by tomorrow.

So overall it took less than 10 mins for the whole process. As stook has mentioned, be patient and don't be pushy by asking them to replace it with TP2 directly. I hope this helps.

You mean try to get a Touch Pro 2. Well, I would not recommend it, but I am not in your shoes.

Anyone have any good experience with the Gateway Austin store? I have been to the Lincoln Village store several times (because it is closer to my house) for other issues and they have never been real helpful. Trying to decide if I should make the drive out to Gateway or not.
