Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Yeah, I've gathered that it is really the luck of the draw. Unfortunately I'm in WV and the Service center I'm going to is 30+ miles from my house and the next closest one is almost 50 miles.
Is there any other options in case the store does not work out, like Chat or calling sprint? Can anyone share their tips or experiences with that? I've tried searching in this thread and others in the forum and it looks like most people either use Asurion or get it done in the store. I tried starting an Asurion claim online last night to see what was offered and it stopped when I put that the issue was with the keypad and said I needed to go to a sprint service center. Also, I'm hoping I do not have to pay a deductible since this is not accidental damage and rather a defective product. |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
I just received my TP2 last night. It was an easy swap. My TP went into brick mode while flashing a rom (official non hacked rom). Took it down to the local repair center and they ordered me a TP2 with no hassle.
This is my third model of wm phones. It was a pain in the butt to get sprint to switch me from the mogul to the TP, I was shocked how easy it was to get the TP2. So, if anyone with a TP that is still under warranty or has the insurance and wants a TP2 it is easy. Just go and flash your rom and unplug it mid way. Take it down to the repair center and tell them it keeps locking up while flashing an OFFICIAL rom. Good Luck |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Hmmmm, I THINK there is a store just off the highway on my ride home from work that has good reps. I drove past there the other day and I am pretty sure there was still a sprint store there... though at the same time I feel like I checked sprints site and it wasn't listed. Worth a check. Last time I went in there I talked to one of the reps and she replaced my phone free of charge (she looked at it and said "looks like it has a screen issue, we will need to replace it"... the younger girl there replied "doesn't there need to see a screen issue?". The older woman just replied "there is a screen issue, I can see one". It was awesome, hope she is still there. :D)

Up here in MA I had one store work for me very well (explained in my last post) and one store who doubted me and then was stunned when I was right. They didn't believe that the TP had a known issue with the cracking chrome. When I told them to input my S/N they did and the guy at the desk called every other rep in the store over because he was so shocked and none one them had seen that before. They did replace it right away for me though (down side was that their store phone line went down and they didn't call me to let me know my replacement was in for 2 weeks. and they couldn't get incoming calls for some reason so I couldn't call them). |

you dont have to brick your phone...if you have the new MR ROM its already shot...
A - Opera will not close with the task manager, matter of fact it doesnt even recognize Opera. B - Timestamp is gone...only the date is shown Ive shown this to 4 diff sprint stores and they all want to replace my phone with the usual crap. snap,pre,curve...no pro2 |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
so, as per a nice man in executive services (who i wont name, but is out of office until next tuesday now), I took the phone to the store. i get there & they tell me they will order me the best comparable model, the touch pro 2 BUT it will be 2 - 3 MONTHS until it is in. so they said they will fix my touch pro, until then. Two hours later they tell me that they cant fix it (i cannot make or recieve calls or texts) and hand me back the BROKEN PHONE! THEN tried to get me to spend another $500 on a phone. so, another 2 - 3 months of paying for service i cannot use. JUST FLIPPIN GREAT.
this is pathetic. how this company stays in business is beyond me. FYI this is the corporate repair center on O street, Lincoln NE. |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Brought my phone into a Sprint store and didn't even have to try to make up a reason why I needed a new phone to replace my TP. He said they were allowed to replace them with a BB or Pre just by asking for it. I was visiting family at the time and assumed they would replace it in store, but he said it had to be shipped (I took a Pre by the way). I wasn't going to be in town by the time it got there so he told me to call Sprint and they'd do it no questions asked since the TP is such a replaced phone. The person helping me on the phone didn't know of such rules of a free replacement just for asking so I had to complain about a laggy screen, battery getting hot, etc. and she was finally able to send me a refurbed Pre. Took a bit of effort though and she had to talk to someone twice about it.
The Pre is so vastly superior to the TP and the webOS is a revolution as compared to WM. I can't even believe I had the TP or debated a TP2 at all. I will not go back to WM ever I bet. Android if anything else. The Pre is a great product and I would believe my refurbed phone were new if i didn't know it wasn't. |

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
Brought my TP with a broken keyboard into a corporate-run Sprint Store tonight, after an hour they came out with a NIB Touch Pro 2. I saw a guy with a new TP2 box leaving the store as I came in, so I knew my chances were good right off the tab.
I've had issues with websites freezing and other things, but when I went to the ASC all they did was reset the phone for me - didn't even offer me an option from the list. Sweet! So much better than the TP! |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
So went to try and get a TP2 today from a local store and failed :( First went to my local shop and the people were hugely helpful. Still love that store. There were new people working there but same great service. They gave me the normal run around "well we need to replace this but we cant give you teh same phone, we can give you the pre, a BB curve, a snap, etc". I countered with "well I need WM since I have a number of apps that I bought for it and I email quite a bit for work so I need the full size physical keyboard... what about the... ummm, uhhhh, what's the name? oh, touch pro 2?".
Once I said that the other guy who was working chimed in and said that he used to work at the regional store. and that they should be able to exchange the TP for TP2 there. I thanked them and went on my way. I drove myself up to the regional store and they asked what problems I was having. I showed them my screen issue, and told them about the periodic locking up while charging and keypad LEDs not turning off problems I have. The guy who I talked to noted the screen and nothing else. The screen was replaced for free, and when I asked if they found out what was causing the other problems they said "well you never told us about those". ARGH!!!!! So they told me they could do a hard reset for me to try and fix that. I told them that Myself and a sprint store already did hard resets with no luck. At this point the rep went to talk to the manager, and came back saying that if they saw the phone fail they would swap it out for a TP2.... Same s*** I got in VA. How am I supposed to show them a damn error that only happens once in a while, while I am charging the phone? They said I could leave the phone with them for the night, but hell, there's no guarentee it will fail tonight. Now knowing my luck it will crash tonight. </rant> |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
so they dont have any more TP because i went to sprint store today for a repair and said the couldnt fix my TP and they said they where ordering me a new phone but didnt say anything about giving me a TP2 or giving me another phone???

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
I think that this thread is a contributing factor to the fact that MANY of us cannot get our phones swapped. -My 2ยข

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
I guess the replacement experience is based on where you live. I went in to my local repair center to point out that the plastic piece that covers the 4 buttons (home, phone, etc) was warped and that I had to make sure that I pushed down hard to ensure contact. The rep told me they would probably have to replace the phone as they don't have parts to fix these phones. I asked what they would replace it with and she said a TP2. I said fine and left. One hour later I received a NIB TP2. I live in RI and this is a corporate repair center so I guess I got lucky.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
well, I'll share my experience in hopes that my failure to get a replacement from sprint helps someone else...
First off, I probably should have stated this earlier when asking for advice, but my TP is a used phone that I aquired from a friend. Everything worked perfect on it for him for quite a while and also when I received. I thought I had read on these forums that a lot times people had been able to get a replacement even though the phone was not purchased at through sprint. Since the closest service center is 30+ miles away are we going though snow storms that are supposed to go into next week, I decided to try calling in to tech support. This is when the craziness started... The first person I spoke to, after explaining the situation, transferred me to tech support. After taking out the battery and reseting the phone, she concluded the keyboard was broke. She said since I hadn't had the phone 30 days (since I activated) that should could transfer me to another group that could issue me a NIB replacement. The next person I spoke to (having to repeat all my info and problem like a new call) asked questions and asked if I had purchased it from a store or online. I told her the truth and thats where it broke loose. She explained that since I had purchased it from an individual that Sprint could do nothing for me. I told her that the previous tech support person had said they could do a refurb exchange but was trying to get me a new phone from her group. So back to tech support I go... This time the previous rep filled in the new tech support person with the situation and upon talking to the new Tech support rep I got the same story. They can't do anything either and that my only option is to file a Asurion claim. I don't even think I could go to a store and try that because the last rep did more typing than talking which I suspect is her filling up my account with notations about this situation. Well that's where I'm at. I'm probably going to have to pay a deductible with Asurion. I started the claim last night but had to fax in the affidavit. When I started the claim, the TP2 was the replacement phone, but as a poster in another thread has stated, it's not what is offered when the claim is started, but what is offered when the claim is finished. I just hope its still a TP2 when I hear back from Asurion. |

I also do have the full insurance so if I wanted to upgrade that badly I could just conveniently lose the TP. I was more ranting because I was pissed that I got sent 45 min (per direction) out of my way for "nothing". 1.5 hours of driving and 1 hour wait and while I did get my screen replaced which is all well and good.. the fact that they wouldn't do anything for my other issues was what got to me. I have been to a sprint store with this phone before (for the same intermittent problems) and have had no luck after repairs. I planned on calling into asurion (sp?) and ordering my replacement via that route last night, but figured that going to a sprint store would be quicker and I would be more likely to end up with a BNIB phone. So i jumped at the opportunity when I heard that "the regional store can replace for you". Just ended up coming back to bite me is all. Don't worry, I'll be sure to read the full thread next time :salute: |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
digida, that is how I ended up with my TP. I got a mogul of CL and lost it a year later. Conveniently got issued a BNIB TP from Assurion (yeah, I guess I was one of the lucky ones). It was a $50 deductible.
While at the sprint store last night I heard the rep selling a phone to some other customer and was saying that the deductible is $50, but it is $100 for blackberries or smartphones. Idk if I have an old plan and got a grandfathered $50 deductible overall or if the deductibles changes recently. :dontknow: |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
so im in the process of canceling my line last night. and of course got sent to rentions. she told me that i need to go to more stores and keep trying! lol... so i told her im cancelling, im tired of doing the footwork to get what "should" be offered. so now shes going to call my areas district manager today and get back to me ... questions of the day-- will good CS finally prevail? will they even call me back? will 8 years with sprint count for anything?
makes no diff to me anymore i can go to t-mob and get a free tp2 and cancel sprint w/o paying the ETF... |

page 146 make no damn difference top me. my account is notated by Executive services that i am to get a level 5 nib touch pro 2 and the store refuses to either fix my phone OR give me a TP2.
they sent me home with my broken phone. you tell me how that post pertains to my situation. all these sniveling littlle bastards in here are to blame im sure. ive been sitting here with a busted phone, not being able to make or receive calls or texts because of all the false replacements youve all demanded. thanks. |

i read every single post on this thread, and it took me 2 months and half a dozen calls and half a dozen store visits before i finally got my tp replaced with a tp2, and my phone had legitimate issues. i tried playing dumb, tried asking outright for replacement, even tried begging at one point. none of it mattered. i finally hit on the right combination of phone issue and service rep who did a hard reboot on my phone and said they would replace it with a different model if the issue continued happening. i made sure he said he would note my acct with that too. even then, when i called back with continuing issues, i had to fight to get the tp2 because the other reps didnt want to honor it. the phone problems make a big difference. if you have intermittent problems like most of mine were, freezing up, random rebooting, waking up and the screen being completely white, not dialing out, overheating, you arent likely to get as much help. if they cant immediately replicate the issue, they will deem it as "working properly" and send you on your way. however if you go in with a known and provable problem, like a broken kb, that they can see for themselves. i walked in with my sister, both of us having tps, and she walked out with a nib tp2 to replace her broken kb tp, while i got sent away with nothing because my phone passed their diagnostics. so if the factors line up, you are good. but if one of them is off, you are likely to end up disappointed. its not just how you approach it. |

On a lighter note, my local Sprint repair center is trying to help me get my TP replaced with a TP2. I have received nothing but good service from them and they have always been able to help me out whenever I needed it. It might take some time and patience but if you have a good outlook on the whole situation, people will be more than happy to try and help you get to where you are going. Good Luck to everybody. |

plus this thread is almost 4 months old. i joined this thread back on page 128, and nothing has changed and no one has done something different than what's already been posted. this is all hit or miss. if you strike out, keep swinging. i say read the thread because the most important step to this is being nice. i'm not a sprint rep, but i can tell you that if you are nasty to one and they note that in your account, YOU WILL NOT BE HELPED. good luck to the even-tempered geekers out there.

i will attest again that i bought my tp (brand new refurb) from a friend who has never sold me anything bad. the tp was bad from the get go. i had the keyboard replaced and two weeks later, the modem crapped out. the rep at the sprint repair store offered (no pleading on my part) to order a tp2 to replace the bad tp if it would go through. it did. i had the tp less than a month. |
Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!
change my attitude? what? ive been through 10 of these things now, they actually gave me back the broken phone and said to wait 3 months, after executive services noted my account for level 5 replacement.
my attitud is called for. ive been civil up to this point. I have been dealing with this since june 09. and fyi, there is only 1 sprint store within 50 miles of here. so doubt ill be "going to another store" if sprint sold ignorance and lies im sure their stocks might actually be worth something. more than likely, ill be going to another provider |

My phone just missed another call for me (ringer didn't go off until the last second) and then kinda half locked up. Go figure it happens the day after I am at the shop.. well the missed calls thing happens all the damn time, I thought it might be my screen lock but I just uninstalled that and still have problems. and the screen locking up was apparently just super-lag this time around I guess, fixed itself after a min when I put the phone down to call the sprint store and say that its locked up and I am on my way in. :-? Edit: Maybe I will try another sprint store on my way home this evening to see if they can help |

no, im not blaming those with real issues. I have been reading this thread since the beginning and i am blaming the (many) people in here that purposely jacked up a functioning phone just so they can get a free upgrade.
and yes, that is exactly what happened at the store. Im sure my executive services rep will blow a gasket when he gets back from vacation. he called me yesterday on my pre paid before he left and told me that he called the store manager and had it taken care of....... |
