all you have to do is have had 3 replacements in 6 mo or less and they will order you a new tp2 NIB. i didnt even have to ask

Ok well i went in service center today and had them try to fix the screen and they failed (of course) so they said they could give me another touch pro or the other phones. I was able to get them to tell me when they come back into stock I would be able to get one. When I get the refurb TP and it dies I should be able to get a TP2 if they werrnt lying to me. It will prob die in a month or less so I dont care. onto using my red razor for the next few days... ](*,) :p

Sprint CS reps suck for many reasons and phone exchanges are the least of it. LOL
AT&T is not the way to go though my friends.
Been there and done that more than once.

i was just playing with the hero today, and omg.. i'm in love. if sprint had the storm 2, i might be pushing for that, but the tour is so outdated looking, it really just doesn't do it for me. plus, no wifi. anyways, this whole system is a mess.

its not entirely sprint's fault. all they did was order the phone, htc is the one who made it. it had to meet *their* quality specs, and of course, their specifications were so low that it did meet them, and then fell apart in our hands. sprint is doing the right thing by offering an upgrade, but they don't carry many equivalent phones, which is probably why they started carrying the touch pro in the first place. so for them to switch us, what is really comparable to the tp? its not like this is verizon, and they can switch you from a diamond to an omnia, or something like that... they really just don't have any other phone that can take its place besides the tp2, which isn't in stock. i'm sure they would like to sell a few of those too. this is the same oos situation when the tp came out, if anyone remembers trying to buy one. cause i was one of those people... that's just how it is. i'm just going to get the hero, and hopefully, google had more influence over the design than sprint had over the cdma version of the tp, because i was playing with it today and it feels pretty damn sturdy. not sturdy like the diamond feels compared to the tp, i mean like really sturdy.

Well, I am one of the few that attempted Friday, eight days past, to get my phone replaced over the phone after being told they would never replace a tp with a tp2 in the store...Last friday after 12:30p cst they were out of stock and I received another call today from tier 2 support updating me to the fact that they are still OOS...at least I got a good ts rep that is following up...I think though in order to be successful I would need a rep to check every few minutes instead of every few days like they are now. I don't think sprint is going to get a windfall of replacement devices...I think they will probably just trickle in from here on out...I do know now though that I don't want a hero....after going w/o a keyboard on the tp for so long I don't think I could handle moving over to the hero to type permanently on a tiny screen...it is a cool device though...too bad it doesnt have keys....

I think I'll be waiting for the Leo to use my upgrade and start typing on virtual keys....

have you seen the samsung moment? its coming out nov 1st. sprint hasn't done a whole lot to let people know about it. i was playing with the hero today at the sprint store, along with a few other phones... god the snap is a terrible experience. anyways, i text mostly onscreen, so i wouldn't mind having less of a chance of another htc defect lol

Allright so a follow up on what I did: Went to a sprint store today, talked to a tech and gave my phone because the refurb kept locking up. They upgraded the phone with a new rom i guess... I now had the slide to answer feature with the browser loading being the htc symbol instead of the ugly opera one... pretty cool i thought.
Later I had to go back since my browser kept crashing and freezing. They upgraded the prl. Forgot to try it on the store but whenever I went into www.ppcgeeks.com the browser crashed, so I went back and the tech came out and asked me to show her the problem with my TP. I showed her and she told me: you know what, you could change your phone for another one.
I'm like yes!!! that's what I wanted to hear!! So she went ahead and told me that I could either get the palm treo pro or the htc snap or the BB tour (something). I asked: what about the touch pro 2? She told me I could get that one but not right now cuz it ain't giving em the option to do it. So she went ahead and gave me some information and told me to call her on Thursday and see if by then they could order me the TP2.

Now I'm set; I'm glad I'm able to upgrade to the TP2, I don't know if it's going to give me as many problems but coping with the issues the TP gave me (knowing i could upgrade to TP2) were unbearable. Even the tech told me that I should use only 1 location on weather cuz if I load to many things on the TP it craps out on you. I'm like what?!?!! Why would I get a phone that isn't able to run the functions it came with? Either way two of the representatives were happy with their TPs but were a little envious of the rep with the TP2. I saw it and just the screen made me want to get that one. I must admit that I was tempted to ask about the hero because of android and the 5mp camera. But then again I'm not much of a camera man and the screen on the TP2 is just sweet!

EDIT: I have to say that I was able to manage a full year without changing my TP but when I got my last 2 refurbs, they've been crap. I put up with a couple of flaws thinking it was WM6.1 but (maybe i'm a little biased) after I read I could get the TP2 i was thinking: to hell with putting up with these damn issues, if a phone doesn't work like it should then don't sell it GDit! I know the hardware on the TP2 is the same, but maybe they put a little more effort into this one and this one is what the TP should've been.

I have to concur with gxip my first TP got recalled within a couple weeks then I was running the next one till about a week ago. now this refurb is already dieing on me... Seriously I have no problems with a refurb, but this is starting to feel like my mogul all over again. I think these phones only really have about a years worth of life in them and after that they get really unstable. I think im going to have to play the refurb dance a bit before I get a phone that works.

I haven't dug through the 70+ pages of this thread, but thought I'd share my experience with Sprint lately.

I have a friend that works for Sprint. He no longer works at the store near me but told me to talk to a certain rep when I had issues. I went in last Sunday (2009-10-11) to upgrade to a family plan and put my parents on it. While there I mentioned that I was interested in the TP2 or Hero. He told me to wait because reps have been given the ability to upgrade the TP to the TP2, they just needed to have them in stock.

Friday (2009-10-16) I went back to the store after relocking and flashing the stock rom. The previous rep I spoke with wasn't working and I was told to get my phone replaced/upgraded I would have to go to a service center to have them look at it and I *might* be able to get the TP2. Luckily, there is a service center a couple miles down the road.

At the service center, I told the rep the issues that I have with my phone (keyboard randomly cuts out, phone locks up while charging). The rep had previously owned a TP and she called it "the sexiest piece of ****" she had ever owned. They took my phone to look at it and I had to wait for an hour (sitting around without my phone for an hour is boring, I missed it). I was told that if they had TPs in stock I would get one of those. I prayed they didn't have any in stock.

An hour later I come back and was given the option of a TP2 or a Snap. My TP2 should be here by Tuesday.

Personally I don't think a program crashing warrants an upgrade. My first thought is something on the web site at the time was trying to do something that crashed the browser. Maybe disabling some settings for the time being would stop it from crashing. If it is happening on one device it happens on all of them. You are replacing a windows mobile with Opera device with a windows mobile with Opera device. Sure you were more going after the TP2 and I see that but really you are saying you have a problem going to a web site on windows mobile 6.1 and you want to replace it with another device with windows mobile 6.1. And sure you can say you left it up to the pros to fix it aka Sprint and they did their best to fix it and couldn't do it and they did the next best thing they could do to make you happy.

It's amazing that sprint continues to yo-yo all of us with each new HTC phone release! They did this last year with the Diamond and TP... they were 'available' (laugh) ONLINE for like 2 months before the stores even got WORD of when there would be a street date for them... and now they're at it again with the TP2! Been out over a month 'online' but still now word on when they will arrive in stores...

meanwhile the Hero launches last week and is available IN STORE SAME DAY... what is is about winmo phones that they like to game us about?

Oh and while there is now a 'upgradeable' phone for the buggy TP... the DIAMOND is still the only winmo phone of it's kind (kb-less, touch only) and therefore has NO replacement. If I have issues with my Diamond, guess what they send another diamond. There is no Wel list for the Diamond like there is for the TP eventhough the only thing that differentiates them is a KB and expandable memory... I'm really tired of getting jerked by these guys!

i actually had the wel list printed out in my car and from what ive gathered there is no order as to what device you get. just depends on WHO you get at the store. some reps interpret that there is an order, but in the memo and on the list there is no mention of "going down the list". the guy i talked to didn't really give me an option either, he just told me that he ordered the tp2. i was actually kinda ogling the hero, a friend has it and that phone really is worth the hype. i guess i'll have to "settle" for the tp2 lol

Someone on another forum posted his eticket receipt for a swap out and it was a priority level 5, which we all know is a NIB unit. My question is, what warrants such a replacement?

I would like to know too. Does the rep at the ASC select priority 4 or 5? or is it predetermined? I have a feeling that the rep makes the priority selection because the phone that was being replaced can make calls and the battery passed. I thought that you get a priority 5 if the phone can't make calls, but i guess I was wrong.

This thread had gotten quite large very quickly. Since there are a lot getting their tp's replaced I was wondering if this is an issue they can fix or if they have to replace the unit. I have found lately that if I start a data connection, the keyboard gets really hot very quickly. At that point it starts stick on lettersssssssssss.

I know i got a brand new in box unit just a few days ago... it took alot to get this phone! I went through about 15 reps trying to explain im not gonna keep putting up with my keyboard dieing... So finally i went to the sprint store which now i started calling it my second home. And said look ive been here way to many times and i know you have the ability to put me in a new device so someone please to something. They took my phone i waited an hour got my phone and the receipt back which had written on it ordered a new in box Tp2 i almost jumped out of my skin.. But thats what i had to go through... Stressful but this phone was worth it!

That makes 2 of us. Everything passed and the person was given a level 5.

Your right with the change, but I was thinking that maybe there could be some differences with the rom and all. Either way the program crashing doesn't warrant an upgrade (at least I don't think so). I got lucky since I had gone 3 times already that day and the last time I went it was almost closing time 8:45pm. Since the place the tech needed to call to try and fix the issue was closed she just offered a replacement.
Most of the times I used skyfire either way but I was definitely trying to get my hands on working ppc and would try anything to either get a perfectly working refurb or a new TP2. There were other issues with the phone they just happened when a tech wasn't around and I had to soft reset or hard reset the phone constantly.
Either way if the new handset has the same issues or more issues due to it's 6.1 nature, then I'll go back to the store and maybe if it's not fixable they'll let me get an android, which will make me absolutely fascinated with sprint.

my TP2 is awaiting shipment. Finally! Started this process last Saturday. Just came back from a corporate store and they put in an order for me. Hopefully the TP2 will be a much better phone

I'm gonna go to every damn sprint store in the whole state if I have to until someone gives me a TP2. Has anyone had any luck getting one at ANY store in oklahoma??? I don't care if I have to drive several hundred miles to get one, I am getting so fed up with my phone. I got my refurb a couple days ago and surprise surprise- SAME ISSUES as the last one!

I DID go alone, and I talked to a male rep too! I think the store in my town is just really uptight or something. I know the guy was lying about it not being on the list. He looked up in the system what models were available for exchange but then went to the back to ask the boss what he could give me. This store doesn't do favors for ANYONE. No discounts, no deals, nada. I'm just gonna make a day of store-hopping tomorrow, memo in hand.

This is a 2 part story....
So I go to the sprint store wednesday night, TP started actin up while I was at work..froze up on me and then reset itself..phone was working when I walked in. Gave it to the Tech to look at and 30 minutes later my phone is now broke. It wont power on past the Touch Pro screen with the red numbers on the bottom of the screen..They said all they could do was order me a replacement touch pro I never asked to upgrade to the TP2. The dude was acting like an a**hole and I really had a defective phone and they made it worse..WTF !!! I called Sprint and all they could do was give me a credit but couldnt upgrade me to the TP2..
.....So the Sales Rep didnt order my replacement phone wednesday like he said he would. Went to the store on friday . We got into an argument about why he didnt order the phone. He said it wasnt his responsibility to check if the phone had been ordered and that he originally told me it would take 3-5 days..He told me I could pick my phone up friday when I originally brought it in for service. At this point I was pissed off and now I didnt care about getting a TP2, I just wanted a working phone. I asked to speak to the manager and they sent out the assistant or whatever he was. All he said was that another store had a touch pro I could go pick it up and there was nothing else they could or would do for me....

Some stores are too uptight. I had issues with a sprint store in another city (they wouldn't change the diamond for the TP when I still had my 30 days) then the one that I go to now gave me one for the $30 difference. I went to a store in the city where I'm studying and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong with the phone (it kept locking up and calls wouldn't come in) and so they couldn't do anything about it, I told them about the memo and they said that it was up to the manager to decide if they replace the phone and he said that the only phone he could give me was the HTC Snap.
So you see... I think you're making the right choice, I've always seen that like CSRs, with stores you just need to keep trying with another one until you find the one that can make you happy. Some will treat you like you're sh** and worthless but others will really make you appreciate being a sprint customer. That also applies to the employees at the sprint store...

this is very true. i went to three different corporate stores and one ASC. two of the corporate stores offered me a TP, a snap or a treo pro. one corporate store and the ASC offered me a TP2 but i got the "not in stock" run around from both. a **** load of customer service calls and i finally got someone who told me the corporate store should have ordered me one. he called up the store for me then got back in line with me and told me to go to the store and ask for bob. i immediately drove to the store, asked for bob and he already knew i was there for a TP2. this was the corp store that had offered me a TP2 but were out of stock before. Bob ordered me a NIB TP2 i beleive

I think this is what determines the level of 4's or 5's...

so i figured it out... (this may be old news to yall...)

but according to the wel list...the 4's and 5's are significant (really coo dude broke it down to me at the sprint store)

the 4's are where the tp2 replacements are that we all were trying to get (refurbished tp2's or the snaps or bbs) those are the ones supposedly out of stock. that means your unit has to be exchanged 3 times prior to this one indicating that this will be your fourth one...now if your unit was exchanged at least 4 times already and you are now on the 5th one...thats when you are able to get a nib tp2. I went ahead and got mine exchanged for just another tp because im sure it will break down again fml. but at least next time ill be able to get a tp2. so the refurbs are oos because most people are around their second or third exchange. Those who got nib tp2's got lucky if they didnt already have 4 exchanges....im assuming

i just settled for a replacement tp. if this one bugs out within the 30 days will i still be able to attempt to get a tp2?

Here is my situation and I would really appreciate an opinion. I am on my second TP, I took it in last week because the screen went blank as did the speaker, they fixed it, however now while on the road traveling it gets roasting hot and goes into these cycle on off resets. Further it doesnt seem to be able to tell a charger from a USB cable often bringing up the active sync screen. I rely on this for an alarm on the road and the damn thing caused me to over sleep!

Think I can get a TP2 swap with these issues?

im on my 6th tp1 and would be on my 7th but i am awaiting a refurb tp2... some of u say that is a level 5 but my sprint store guy says no... ive been waiting for him to call me for over a week and tell me those o so special words...guess ill keep waiting.

if its been over a week you need to go down there. Dude prolly giving ur tp2 away

I think this is what determines the level of 4's or 5's...

so i figured it out... (this may be old news to yall...)

but according to the wel list...the 4's and 5's are significant (really coo dude broke it down to me at the sprint store)

the 4's are where the tp2 replacements are that we all were trying to get (refurbished tp2's or the snaps or bbs) those are the ones supposedly out of stock. that means your unit has to be exchanged 3 times prior to this one indicating that this will be your fourth one...now if your unit was exchanged at least 4 times already and you are now on the 5th one...thats when you are able to get a nib tp2. I went ahead and got mine exchanged for just another tp because im sure it will break down again fml. but at least next time ill be able to get a tp2. so the refurbs are oos because most people are around their second or third exchange. Those who got nib tp2's got lucky if they didnt already have 4 exchanges....im assuming

i just settled for a replacement tp. if this one bugs out within the 30 days will i still be able to attempt to get a tp2?

Sorry i have had only three replacemenats in 6 mo actully in 3 weeks and i got a NIB so that doesnt have to do with priority 5 or 4 im pretty sure

p.s. im a premier customer if that matters

just gonna throw this out there since ive seen people commenting that you have to have had 3 exchanges to do this.... quote from the original memo, bold is theirs:

"Important Note: For this device, customers do not have to meet the exchange minimum level established by our multiple exchange policy to be proactively offered a different replacement model."

ive been trying to get my tp exchanged as well, but not having any luck with repair centers as the issues i have are with reception at my home location and it tests fine when they run diagnostics. we have three lines and the other phones all work fine, as did my previous model. its either tps or my particular tp that has a bad antenna. last repair center tech advised me to call up sprint and threaten to quit and talk to retentions to see if they would swap it for another model. i may try that next. im just afraid they will say "see ya!" since i have 3 sero lines heh.

just an update for those waiting for the tp2 to get back in stock:
called today and they are still OOS. this needs to be updated daily so those people waiting eagerly will know when its back in stock.
guess ill just keep waiting.

If our phone is now completely dead, does anyone have a good phone number to call Sprint to check up on availability of the TP2?

I can call the generic support number, but if anyone has any better ones please let me know.

well i guess that makes sense. The guy helping me out he wasnt sure...because he saw two options for tp2 (refurb and new) so he asked another guy and that dude said how i explained it...so all in all fml. lol. im sure this one will crap out and in that case ill just go right to that store and demand a nib tp2.

Ah damn, I wish I had seen this this AM, I am on the road and was in Cleveland all weekend, I could have potentially stopped in and had this swap done rather than dealing with my TP1 BS issues all this weekend.
