Re: fraud?

File a claim. They won't care about the custom rom. I've replaced 2 TP's now with a flashed rom.

i agree w/ the above poster. Before my tp, i had the kaiser w/ a custom rom. It wouldn't power on, (water damage), so i called in an insurance claim, got my tp, and sent my kaiser back to them. I got billed the standard $125 deductible, and i never got a call about having a custom rom on it. That phone was fubar once my tobacco water hit it in the powered on state, and i'm just glad i had insurance.

Chances are, the damaged unit is fubar unless you disassemble it and dry it. If you don't do that, then just file the claim to get a replacement unit. (if you're time is worth more then the $125 deductible, just replace the damn thing). It's not like you dropped it in the toilet (or whatever), on purpose.

Orly? ;-)

Yes, I cut the top off of pop cans and fill them full of water to exinglush cigarettes. Apperantly I tipped it over, because it stunk like cigarette butts, and the water that came out of it was brown. it was gross, but insurance took care of it. I smoke pot, but the accident wasn't cused by it.

okay, i think i'm going to file the claim, keep my phone on hand (store it away) and if my phone works again by some miracle, i'll tell them i found it. (will they give me the deductible back?). my question is if they'll bill me the deductible now or if they'll tack it onto my next sprint bill.

Re: fraud?

they can do both, but working or not when you file the claim you file the claim you have 10 days to turn it back in so keep it as long as possible. or just lose it on purpose and file it as lost and you wont be lieing.

Yes, it technically is fraud, (replacement for other then stated reason), but you're still left with a NF unit, so it's not like you're gaining something if you file it as lost instead of water damage. If you really want to test it out, don't file the claim yet, and disassemble the unit. (HTC TP service manual can be found in my 4shared in the Raphael section), and dry the parts over a slow heat, (buried in dry white rice), for a couple days. After the parts are 100% dry, reassemble the unit, and try powering it on. If that doesn't work, then do your claim for water damage.

if he takes it apart and it still doesnt work afterwords the ins co will charge him full retail price for the phone because he opened the case.
