It should be possible to do so, However, you would need to manually enter in the carrier data.

Huawei Wins Philippines CDMA Contract

Huawei Technologies says that it has been awarded a CDMA network expansion contract by Philippines based BayanTel for an advanced ALL IP CDMA2000 end-to-end solution, including intelligent network, transmission, and microwave products.

BayanTel is the largest wireless landline provider running on the CDMA platform in Philippines, and it is the majority owner of the second-largest long-distance backbone network.
HuaweiÃ's All-IP solutions, coupled with environmentally-friendly technologies such as its Green Base Station Solution meet the demands of BayanÃ's development strategy by expanding the coverage of the network by more than 15% while decreasing the power consumption of the network by more than 20 percent.
Bayan is focusing on low-cost voice services in a market which is dominated by cheap SMS tariffs from the mobile operators.
"With our wireless landline service, we are giving Filipinos their voices back," said Bayan Chief Executive Consultant Tunde Fafunwa. "We are giving them the opportunity to make unlimited local calls while being mobile, and as more and more consumers recognize the value of the service, we need a reliable partner in building our network and we believe Huawei is the right choice."
Bayan Telecommunications (BayanTel) is a telecommunications company serving areas in Metro Manila, Bicol and local exchange service areas in the Visayas and Mindanao regions combined cover a population of over 25 million, nearly 33% of the population of the Philippines.

When going out of States, I could recommend looking for a GSM alternative. IF you like your HTC Touch Pro, you might want to consider a Fuze.. my 2 cents :)

Yea, try searching for info. the minute you type manila it's nothing but customization info.

Anyway, Just to round out this thread, I have found that the best way to go is to bite the bullet and get a GSM style phone. You buy sim chips in manila like people buy long distance calling cards here. they are at any store. But way cheaper. I am not sure of what I want to get though and havent got alot of time to do the research. I might just get a fuse. any other good options out there?

sorry this drifted away from the TP
