Thought I would be the only one!

that didn't have their keyboard break :(. I did the DIY fix with duct tape and that only got me like 1 week longer for it's life, but now it's completely dead. now after I flash back to stock rom should I

A. Go directly to a Sprint Store (or Sprint repair center)

B. Call Sprint and activate TEP and then goto the Sprint Store (or Sprint Repair Center).

I'm wondering if since this is such a widespread problem if I will be needing to activate TEP first so they'll fix it or will they just do it anyway??

(naturally I took the duct tape and stuff out and reattached the ribbons)

Re: Thought I would be the only one!

if you've had your phone for over a month, you can't get TEP... but because it's a known issue and you're probably still on warranty (if they don't notice that you opened it), you should get it replaced for free

Or better yet, try to get the TP2 lol

The Sprint store will fix it for a cost if you have no tep.

i still havent had a phone with a bad keyboard, all my issues are with the screen and the dpad/send/end. I guess i use the SIP more than keyboard.

how much would it cost?? Would it still be more than startin TEP and then cancelling again?

Re: Thought I would be the only one!

of course it wil be more than TEP, just add that thing if u can and head on there

Re: Thought I would be the only one!

I think you missed it. You can't just call and add TEP. If you don't have it now, you more than likely can't add it. And I believe you also need to wait 30 days before your first claim.

HBOOT 09-12-2009 12:09 PM

Re: Thought I would be the only one!

definitely the 30 days wait but it is possible to add it past the 30 if u know how..

Xartist1 09-12-2009 12:24 PM

Re: Thought I would be the only one!

How do you add TEP past the 30 days grace period?

myhollowworld2 09-12-2009 12:26 PM

Re: Thought I would be the only one!

Apart from finagling your way with a rep, I'm not sure of any...However there is a member on here who can add things to your account, maybe TEP is one of them?

SporkLover 09-12-2009 12:28 PM

Re: Thought I would be the only one!

Is it still under warranty? Take it to the Sprint store, they will still fix it if it is under warranty... TEP or no TEP.

Re: Thought I would be the only one!

Didn't the Sprint TP come out less than a year ago? If so, then all TP's should still be under warranty.

I took my phone in yesterday to get the keyboard replaced and they did for free, in 30 minutes. However, now the charger, reset button, and vibrate function is no longer working. Back to the Sprint store I go!

I think I know how I can add TEP without hassle, thanks guys :)

Re: Thought I would be the only one!

When I went to my sprint repair center for my mogul to trade it for the touch pro I didn't have TEP, I just flirted with the rep and she was like, usually we don't add it after 30 days... but I will. Just be nice, polite whatever they will add it more than likely.

At the oldest it is 11months old. Sprint released the TP in early Oct in 2008.

Take it in soon.

alright thank you! I'd probably still argue for it to be a free fix even though it should be

damnit, they charged me 120 because they said it's water damaged, should I go back and argue or just accept it??? (I do have TEP)

if the sensor is tripped, there's not much you can do to argue it. way back i somehow tripped my moisture sensor on a phone (maybe in the bathroom while i was taking a shower? who knows) and sprint wouldn't even look at it, let alone try to figure out what was wrong.

It's such BS though, that is completely unrelated I might as well have beat the phone into submission with a hammer. :angry7: He asked me if I wanted to order a TP2 (for full price) and I was like "uh....no".

I wish they just gave me a new keyboard and I'd replace it myself since my TP is in such great condition and because that stupid sensor was tripped it's now a "dead" device.

I have a great idea to get back at them though ;)

I have had my Touch Pro with Sprint for about 4 months and I have always had keyboard issues. I took it in yesterday when it stopped working entirely and they put a new keyboard on it for free. I didn't pay anything or lose any data etc....I do have insurance but they never asked any questions. They just took my phone and put a new keyboard on it.

Re: Thought I would be the only one!

I can't see why anyone wouldn't have insurance on a expensive phone like this. About 3 years ago my cat knocked my phone into it's water dish while I was in the shower. I didn't have insurance. I had to pay for a new phone out of pocket. After I got my new phone, I got insurance and I have had it ever since. I went through 3 TP's in the past year and never have to worry about getting hassled about it. Plus 2 out of the 3 were brand new ones in the box. Which makes it ever better.

you said earlier in the thread that you didn't have it and you just added it. you can't make a claim on the insurance until 30 days after it's added to the account.
(the whole thing about somehow getting TEP after the 30-day limit and then canceling it after your claim is the other thing i was talking about being a flame-magnet)

oh, I thought you meant I couldn't add TEP if my phone was more than 30 days registered under my account. I just re-activated an old phone of mine and then re-activated my TP again to enable TEP to be selected.

You're saying since I just put it on this morning it won't count until roughly a month from now?

strra 09-14-2009 05:50 PM

Re: Thought I would be the only one!

yeah, from what i've heard you can't make an insurance claim until 30 days after it's activated on the account

Oh, but would I really have to make a claim for them just fix the keyboard. I'd assume they'd just see the keyboards shot, see I have TEP, and then fix it. It got really complicated really fast.

Do you think he would have fixed it if I waited the 30 days or would he still pull the water damage excuse??

You have to make the claim if there's water damage (by Sprint's standards). If you don't want to make a claim buy a phone off ebay.

It's so dumb because the phone works fine, the little indicator may say the phone has water damage but the phone still works 100%. I went there for just a keyboard replacement, instead I paid $120 and got a new phone (which is a good deal considering I'd pay probably like $150 on ebay) that's the only reason I agreed.

problem is that if that strip is tripped, all warranty is null and void

Geez, they must replace alot of kb's if they're stocking them at the store. So far so good(knock wood), but mine is fine and I use it alot. Baby the hell outta the tp tho as all my devices. Only 2-1/2 months old so who knows? I guess if it did take a dump I'd just eat the cost of a tp2 and that'd be my new phone. Do you suppose they would pro-rate the tp1 and apply that to a tp2, or just install a new kb. Probly new kb. :)

they're just plain not giving away TP2's to replace TP's. not yet. the sooner people realize this, the better :P

i feel you there, but the reason i'm not upgrading (yet) is because the few upgrades it does have aren't worth $350

What if it was the CTRL key itself that causes all TP keyboards to fail lol, that would be the only acceptable reason for them to get rid of it for me:angry7:
