Yeah, it can be confusing at first but try to read and reread the threads about this. There is a video that can help too found here. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=69854

you can hard spl the phone from the memory card or the computer.. its easier from the computer if you ask me..

the ruu or rom update utility is a general utility used to flash a rom, a radio, or even a image for your bootscreen...

here man, Silly Simple for ya...

1)put spl and RAPHIMG.nbh(included in the spl folder) to root of SD card

2)move spl to root of device, run... follow and reboot.. your unlocked now

3) take the ROMs nbh, reneme RAHPIMG.nbh

4)move that RAPHIMG.nbh to the root of SD card... overwrite the previous file(no longer needed, unlock is one time thing)

5)put into bootloader, vol down, power button, and center Dpad, and it will start the rom flashing process for you... follow the prompts until it says COMPLTETED

6)soft reset after "complete successfully" and enjoy your new ROM
