Is there a way to control how dim the background is on the start menu?

I think you have to select your background by going to albums and holding down until you see set as background. Then it will bring up a transparency option. You can set it to 100% for most transparent or 0% for no transparecy. I don't think it does it if you just go into today items and browse to the image.

Thanks but not what I meant. It's not about making it transparent or not. The picture in the bg is "dimmed'....it looks darker and therefore makes icons easier to see

The background in the start menu is based on the current today theme and is completely independent of whatever background you have set in Manila.

Try this:

\windows\StartMenu_Background_Screen_480x640.png
and
\windows\StartMenu_Background_Screen_640x480.png

this is what is shown as start menu background. Its a PNG that is set as black, but only like 60% opacity, change the opacity to change how transparent, change the color even to personalize it more.

You just need to get the .png's onto your computer and edit them in photoshop or the like. I've attached ones that are 50% the opacity of stock, 0% opacity (clear), and the stock ones in case you don't like either of those.

Did you copy them to /windows on your device and overwrite the ones there? It worked for me and made the background brighter.

im trying to make the background darker! lol. its already as bright as the today screen
