Make hardware keys correspond to soft keys

Hey guys I've been searching both in and out of PPCGeeks and haven't found anything yet. Does anyone know how to have some of the hardware keys on the keyboard correspond to the soft keys. I ask because my brother's touchscreen on the TP went out, it still displays but the touch is non-responsive. We're wondering if we can make a hardware key act as the "send" soft key so he can text until monday when sprint replaces his phone.
