Touch Pro stops charging FIXED by no2chem!
No2chem has released nueForceChargeOn 0.1! This program is intended to disable the VERY low temp threshold for the charging cut-off for the battery. As most of us know already, when your TP stops charging, and you check the battery, it's fairly cool. It's the radio that's getting hot (due to tethering, or WiFiRouter, and other radio heavy activity... even just talking while charging!) but not the battery!
EDIT: DISCLAIMER FROM NO2CHEM REGARDING POTENTIAL DANGERS TO DEVICE: "Please note that by disabling the temperature sensor, you run the possibility of damaging your phone or causing physical harm to yourself/others due to an exploding lithium-ion battery." as posted by no2chem. Finally we can run our WiFiRouter, or tether, or charge while using GPS in our cars, without having the TP decide it's got too hot of a battery to continue to charge. Please read the disclaimers on the nuerom.com site with regards to this new (and totally needed) software modification. And for good measure, READ THE WHOLE POST. If you aren't comfortable with what this does, then don't use it. Here's the link! (For CDMA devices ONLY at the moment) http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/pos...available.aspx Thank you no2chem! Everything you come up with is a good idea, and usually a badly needed change. EDIT: I should've previously mentioned that it's currently available via the donator control panel so that testing is limited enough to not have dozens of Touch Pros with blown batteries. Two things, take a drill to it and make holes to help air flow. Or add a thin aluminum plate, if you have the room, to act as a heat sink. I take the battery cover off mine and sit it on a 2"x3"x1/4" thick aluminum plate and have no problems with heat on longer teathering sessions!

Re: Touch Pro stops charging FIXED by no2chem!
this has BAD written all over it... whats the VERY LOW Temp cutoff, i bet its atleast a 100degrees... 140 or higher and your risking alot, just trying to tether longer.... and your battery isnt even whats actually getting hot, its the radio.. yeah i know that battery is what triggers, but its second hand heat really... the batteries dont get hot, these arent Moguls
you dont know how the device, the usb port, the radio, or the battery will react if you stay above the old cut of temp, which is what again?, for very long... its a saftey issue, thats why its there, sure it sucks, but hey id rather my battery not explode while im trying to charge it and talk on the phone or use the comp... be very very safe people...i recommend some kind of temperature reading/monitoring app or something, do we have those?, if u use something like this..

Agreed that caution should still be observed. nuePowerCPL has the temperature reading for the battery, but it may not work while in disabled mode. Since we know it's not the battery that gets hot, we'd be more likely to see smoked radio chips, not an exploding battery. Most li-on batteries DO have built in thermal circuit protection as a redundancy. Testing is the only way to know. I will edit the first post to put more emphasis on the potential dangers. |
