Sorry this might be a dumb question, but someone mentioned to me that the touch pro has separate icons for regular evdo and evdo rev a. My touch pro always just has an EV icon at the top (mighty rom 6 default). So if i'm on the rev a network will there be a different icon, or will it just be the same?

ev will be the icon for rev a speed
1x will be normal speeds...but it is rom specific eg alltel rom uses the rA icon to note rev A

There are 3 general speeds for 3g(CDMA)

1x standard low speed around 115kbp/s

EVDO Rev 0 Regular 3G speeds 300-700kbp/s depending on congestion and signal

EVDO Rev A The newest addition 700-1700lbp/s Depending on congestion and signal

these are ball park figures not exact but some users have posted worse and some have posted better results.

For Rev A you have to have capable hardware in your phone to receive the additional speed. The Touch Pro does have such hardware.

Most stock carrier roms will show the diff with a diff icon but the chefs sometimes break the code needed for it to work properly due to custom icons and mods to the taskbar an SYS.

Alltell has a rA to show Rev A EVDO and EV for Regular speed EVDO and 1x is the generic icon for low speed internet.

I have sprint and ditched the stock rom the day I got my Touch Pro so I have never seen a custom rom that I have flashed or cooked up properly show the rA or equiv on Sprint.

Im in EVDO Rev A land and it always sits at Ev. When my phone switches to 1X, it isnt normakl EVDO but abnormal 1xRTT for me. I dont likeit when that happens. Im also running Mighty 6

For GSM phones AT&T uses EDGE so E could mean that i have no clue what their 3g icon is... Probally 3G

Ok, so i was on the stock sprint rom for about 4 months and the EV icon is the only one i ever saw. So either there is no rev a icon on stock sprint rom, or no rev a in philadelphia (and i highly doubt that).

There is no rev A icon on Sprint. It will just say Ev. :)
