why can't I get GPS to work on Custom ROM's?
I've tried a bunch of different ROMS. the ones that used alot of memory had the GPS working fine (MightyROM, Energy ROM 3.0, etc).
The cut down ROM's that i've tried (DCD hermann, JD's, etc) just don't work. I've tried everything. Location is ON, GPS is set to be automatically managed, etc. i would assume this has partially to do with VZW's gimping of the GPS in earlier versions of the firmware. the stock 1.08 ROM has the GPS working just fine. I cannot figure out the problem :( |

Probably has to do with the drivers being used. Try one of mine: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=75032 GPS works in all of them. I pulled v5.0 do to issues with the sys. All the other ones work really well. Give it a try. What program are you trying to use? That matter also because some programs need to have the gps primed. Try Google maps. Also you can post at my thread and I will try to help you.. ptfdmedic |

cannot get the GPS to work with your ROM ptfdmedic.
I figured out what the problem is. The Verizon Touch pro REQUIRES ROM's made SPECIFICALLY for a verizon device. I noticed the following: Your midnight ROM, JD's ROM, and DCD Hermann's ROM ARE ALL GENERIC ROMS THAT REQUIRE CARRIER CABS. These are the last three that I have tried that did NOT have working GPS. Verizon's Touch pro doesn't seem to work with these generics, which would explain why the mightyROM and EnergyROM's (which have specific verizon versions available, as to whats different, I have no idea but they are obviously tweaked for verizon) have working GPS, but these generic ROM's dont. |

This will need to be done anyway because more people are going to have the same problem. I will start posting in my thread about this. Let me know if you are intrested... |
Re: why can't I get GPS to work on Custom ROM's?
glad i could help you find that.
I'm on the stock ROM for now. I seem to get decent enough battery life and GPS functionality so it'll have to do for now. Do you know if its safe to turn the page pool up for the stock rom to 16MB's? |

I don't think you can on a stock rom but I could be wrong. There is nothing unsafe about changing the page pool all it does is take away from available memory for programs to run. |

Re: why can't I get GPS to work on Custom ROM's?
if you run a custom rom you need to run the bored GPS fix. follow the instructions and you should be GTG. also, bored has a nice VZN TP rom as does SSK.

you mean this fix in this thread? http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=49933 Also, can you get me links to his ROM's? I'm mainly looking for slimmed down ROM's. I tried JD's 1.08 ROM and that was nice but I couldn't get GPS to work. maybe this was the reason? Can anyone confirm? i'm on stock ROM for now, i'm getting sick of flashing new ROM's over and over and over. |
