Noobie here =)

hey guys and gals
i recently purchased a used htc touch pro off a friend, she used it for a week and switched to an iphone. long story short i bought her htc touch pro and i want to use it for metro pcs. i have no knowledge of roms? or what not. i was an iphone user for awhile until today =(.
ive seen online that the htc touch pro can be flashed and used through metro pcs, but in doing so only such features sms, calls, and voicemails can be used.

1. is it safe for metro pcs to flash my phone?
2. is there any way i can use the htc touch pro functions through metro pcs?

a link to the right direction would be great, if i have broken any of the forum rules, please forgive me.
thanks in advance
cheers
