Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
EDIT: Apologies have already been made for the misleading and innapropriate title of this thread, so before more people get their panties in a bunch about it please read the ENTIRE thread before posting!
I had the MightyROM installed on my Verizon phone and quite liked it, the phone was FAR more responsive and much easier to navigate with the new WinMo 6.5 start menu interface, but I decided to try the Yay 4 Juggs ROM as it was recommended by IsYouGeekedUp and came with very little pre-installed. I like nice squeaky clean ROMs. I flashed the ROM that I downloaded from here, and the flash itself went smoothly, but after the phone reset it just sits on the Verizon Wireless startup screen and doesn't go past the "Please wait, phone is starting up" phase. Perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention and the ROM is a Sprint one, or I somehow flashed it incorrectly, but regardless of how I've screwed this up my phone won't boot and I'm unable to flash the MightyROM back onto it as the flashing util won't see the phone as active since an ActiveSync connection can't be established with it. Is there any way of rectifying this, or am I hosed? Thanks in advance for your help, -Sootah |
Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
just put ur phone in bootloader (hold down volume + power and reset button) till u get to the 3bar screen, plug in your usb and flash to another rom

Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
and apologize.

Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
and doing a search and reading could help rather than blasting a good chef
|
Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
what if we didn't blast a newcomer and make him feel like crap?
i think he pretty much said it was his fault in the sentence, "Perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention and the ROM is a Sprint one, or I somehow flashed it incorrectly....." temper, temper everyone! :violent2: |
Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
oh...and thank the guy that helped you. =D>

Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
I think it's impossible to brick one of these phones. About a month ago I was searching around and found a really cool looking ROM. I don't remember which one, but it wasn't on this site. It had a few neat features and figured I'd give it a shot.
I was a dummy and didn't read it was a Raphael ROM. I flashed it, which it took eagerly, but it wouldn't boot afterwards. I didn't realize I had just put a GSM ROM on my CDMA phone. OOPS! It was hosed. I ran upstairs to get my daughters 1GB MicroSD card from her phone and quickly copied a new ROM to it. I reflashed and it's been fine ever since. I didn't panic because I know these are sturdy devices when it comes to flashing ROMS. If at first it doesn't succeed, try again. Don't go blasting off at a chef when something doesn't go right. One of the first things we all must read is how we are doing this at our own risk. The chefs have certainly installed the ROM on their devices to test it out. It's their choice to share it with us and our choice to install it ourselves. If we do something stupid... it's our own fault. Even the experienced ones fudge up at times. We're only human. Keep in mind that Verizon has limited your memory. Check into smaller page pools before flashing. If the page pool size is 20 more, you'll probably have a problem with that ROM. The moral of my little story is to READ BEFORE YOU FLASH! It can save a headache or two. |
Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
We should not post anymore on this thread. It is an insult to Juggs to have this at the top of the forum...
|
Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
Moved to the general touch pro forum.

Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
These roms that the cooks release get tested 15 times over with all the users flashing it. If it was the rom itself then everyone would have the issue and the rom would be pulled...
9 times out of 10 the problem is the flasher! In this case it seems pretty obvious to me what the problem is. You have a VZW phone! You need to make sure the pagepool is not above 12 BEFORE you flash the rom! I am not sure if Yay adds a pagepool changer to his release but if he does I suggest using it and then reflashing the rom. Most likely cause of a non-booting flash is you don't have the memory required to run it! And that's because with a pagepool set too high there is not enough space left for the actual rom to run! Use the pagepool changer and try setting between 6-12 and reflashing...my guess is your phone will boot right up after that! |

Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
i think it was just a user error, not y4j's fault, it's clearly labeled as a sprint only rom and another version for altel

Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
Some of you seem kind of harsh on the guy. He never insulted anyone and just thought that his phone was bricked as a result of the rom. Bricking your phone is a scary thing considering that if it isnt fixable, you either have a $200 paperweight or you pay $100 for a replacement that is usually refurbished (unless the store you return your phone at decides to be nice and give you a new phone like they did with me when my tp got wet). As far as the rom saying "Sprint" on it, I dont blame Sootah for downloading it because in many roms, the carrier name on it doesnt matter. Ive flashed so many roms to my Alltel tp that say "Sprint specific rom" or "Verizon specific rom" and they run fine on my phone.

Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
Wow! way to scare off the newcomer.
As several people have stated - read his ENTIRE first post! he didn't blame juggs he asked what he could do to fix it! although some of you may only look at the title and see a potential blame, reading an extra 30 seconds would have fixed that. based on the flfactat that your quick to blame and don't read entire posts, i'm sure most of you have done similar things - flashing a rom without reading the instructions etc.. /end rant |
Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
First: I would definitely like to thank t0mmyr for showing me how to reflash my phone even though it wouldn't boot. I put the MightyROM back on it and it worked splendidly.
Second: While I definitely could have worded my thread title better, I have nothing to apologize for. I made it quite clear in my posting that it was likely me that screwed up the flashing, so unless absolutely nobody but t0mmyr and leighton86 even read the thread itself then I don't see why everybody's panties got so bunched up. Again, thank you Tommy and Leighton for reading through my problem and responding appropriately. Now that we have that out of the way, is it possible to use the Yay 4 Juggs ROM with a Verizon phone? If not, what is the fastest and most lightweight ROM out there that will function with a VZW phone? My absolute main concern is speed, I'd like the phone to be as snappy as possible. I liked my HTC G1 well enough when I had it, but it felt like the GooglePhone got rushed to market just for the sake of having it out in a hurry. It being slightly half-baked aside, that phone was fast. I had no problems with lag on that bad-boy EVER. I'm hoping that there's a ROM out there that'll work with my Verizon Touch Pro that'll come close to the responsiveness I had with the G1. My secondary concern is having the least amount of pre-installed software as possible. I figure if I need an app then I can download it myself; which also means I can uninstall it as well as the fact that I can choose to install it to my 8GB MicroSD card in order to keep the phone's built-in memory as free as possible. Third: I would like to apologize to everyone for this misunderstanding. While I do feel that many of the responses were far too hostile I didn't join this forum to cause problems or make enemies. So, again, I apologize. Any help ya'll can give me in finding a ROM that'll suit my needs as described above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, -Sootah |

most roms will work on vzw touch pro, makes sure you read to see, my rom is made for all touch pro's, but i have a verizon one so i make sure everything is running fine on mine, and make sure it doesnt use too much ram. Also ssk makes his for verizon touch pro.

While mine isnt the most lightweight rom, it still is lite and doesnt use much ram at all. |

Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
Also, since we've obviously established that I have a Verizon phone, are there any steps I need to take in advance of flashing in order to make this work?

On some roms though i would lower the pagepool to 8-12 though |
Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
I may have added to the situation here and if I left the impression that I was chastizing the OP I'm sorry that wasn't my intention....
Maybe if we all followed the rule that if you don't have a potential solution for the poster it is better to not say anything at all these things would not happen! I would propose a stickied thread in the upgrade forum that a user of a specific carrier would be able to go to and answer the most basic issues they will have with flashing a new rom for their carrier including what the programming codes for their carrier are and other little tidbits (like enabling GPS and pagepool settings) |
Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
I've played with Demolition ROM for the past several days, and I quite like it. What other slim ROMs are out there that I can play with? With the amount I like Demo, I'll probably stick with it; but I'd be interested to see if there are any others that are even faster.. :)

Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
you could have done better by choosing a better subject line. "I bricked my phone, please help me." or "I'm a noob and don't know what I'm doing" or something like that.
by the way, if your phone powers on at all, it's not bricked. |
Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
Roms don't brick phones...people do.
especially a great rom like Y4J's. please edit your thread title. |

but you might want to change the pagepool on all three its not hard just search pagepool changer or something to that effect it should bring up what your looking for. |

Wow I am shocked at some of you, I guess how we forget when we were new to the flashing and had no clue, yet there was someone who helped us through it. Remember some people may not be as technical savvy as others. He wasn't blaming or insulting anyone here and made a mistake and flashed a Sprint ROM on a Verizon phone. This is a community and we should be helping not bashing. I hope in the future we can treat our new members with a little more respect and do more assisting than insulting. For those who helped =D> I applaude you and thank you. |
Re: Yay 4 Juggs ROM may have bricked my phone..
I respectfully disagree. The title of the post implies that YayforJuggs was the reason for the "bricking." It's misleading. I think people are just defending the cook.

No old wounds were open and my comment was for future use and to serve as a reminder why this site is even here, its here for helping people. This is why I ended my statement with I hope in the future........ If I pointed fingers to anyone I apologize for it, and yes maybe the OP could have chosen a better Title but he is new to this and was probably scared or worried his phone was bricked. My only intent was to point out sometimes instead of rendering help to someone in need we do the oppeset at times. Anyways points were made and hopefuly we can be of more assistance next time is all I am saying. |

This stupid thread is still going? Someone lock this one up. Please. I'm sick of seeing it.
