Re-establishing an ActiveSync Connection After Flashing to New ROM
I tried to search through the forums, and I'm not sure if this is the right area to ask this, but here it goes:
Is there any way to maintain the same ActiveSync connection after flashing to a new ROM? After I flash, my PC sees my device as a new device. Is there a file I can back-up and restore? Any ideas? I would like to use PIMBackup to keep a backup of my contacts, calendar and notes. Unfortunately, if I restore from this backup after a new flash, my PC sees it as a new device and then when it syncs the contacts and calendar events, it tries to make doubles. I realize that I can do an overwrite and all that (if I have only made changes on my PC or Touch Pro), but ActiveSync also keeps files per device. And it makes a new device entry - so then I need to go and delete my old one. It's just a pain. By the way, I have tried to set the device name on my Touch Pro to the same name as I previously used. But ActiveSync is "too smart" to be fooled by that. TIA! |
Re: Re-establishing an ActiveSync Connection After Flashing to New ROM
What I do is make a final sync, before I reconnect the device for the first time after flash, delete the partnership but keep the sync folder . Rename the old sync folder in my documents (add a 2 or something). After flashing I name my device before sync(I maintain a name to keep Mobsync syncing with my sd card). I connect and set up a new partnership, after sync I copy all the files from the old sync folder to the new. No restore from a backup necessary, everything is restored. I also keep a recent Sprite B/u on my sd card (I auto b/u every night and keep the 3 latest) in case I should have to hard reset or replace the device. After my old Mogul got replaced (repeatedly) all I needed to do was unlock, flash and restore b/u and everything was back in ~15min. I'm not sure that was exactly what you're looking for, but hope it's of some help.

Re: Re-establishing an ActiveSync Connection After Flashing to New ROM
Thanks. That is some help as I hadn't thought about doing things in quite that order. I appreciate the suggestions and will follow them if no one else can help me find the details I'm looking for.
What I'm really hoping to find is a way to add something to my custom section of PIMBackup to back up a couple files so that they're restored upon a PIMBackup restore. Then I can avoid re-naming and moving and all that stuff on the PC. There HAVE to be some system files or registry settings or something that identify the device and are apparently changed (or re-generated) each time the device is flashed. |
