True that aGPS will not work without a cell signal. Maybe he kicked on and off of a tower somehow without being aware. I however have NEVER been able to get GPS to work on EITHER carrier while in flight mode, maybe just bad luck. This includes the Titan, Touch, Touch Pro, and Treo Pro. I was in St. Kitts in the middle of the ocean where there was little or no service of any kind, and I was never able to get my GPS to work, the entire 3 days I was there since I kept it in flight mode as not to incur any international voice or data usage charges.
Without a signal, or if your aGPS is turned off via either of the methods in the second post, it will take a VERY long time to get sat locks, but it's not impossible. I was on VZW earlier this year and had the 6800. Before the aGPS fix came out on XDA, I was used to waiting from 5-20 minutes for GPS locks. |

if you didnt have service it wouldnt matter if the phone was on or if it were in airplane mode. i can sit on my couch with the phone in airplane mode and get a lock just as fast as when its on. the radio has nothing to do with the GPS chip.
