clean mobile install ideas

I use my tp as a personal & car sat radio, gps & mp3 player.

1.
Seems the best way to get a clean mobile install will be to use these angled usb cables, ( http://www.usbfirewire.com/uextendminib.html ) make them run down the steering column (since i'll mount on the driver side vent) to the glove box (where I have modulator & ground loop isolator).

proclips has a 3-in-1 and have seen similar products but I really don't see how convinient or "clean" that extra square block under the phone will work out for a car install, especially if you swivel it sideways.

2.
I also want to feed power to the phone w/o using the car charger, can anyone suggest a wire to mini usb power kit that will be safe for the TP???

?? as a last resort would it do harm to hack the plug of a car charger to have power meet @ the glove box where the end of the extention will be? if I'm not mistaken there is a fuse in the connector ??

I won't be doing this myself but at the same time I assume car audio shops might not have these oddities on hand.
