ok there are 2 diectories you wanna add files to. go to file explorer my device/windows and that is the first one and the second one is my device/windows/rings

I put mine in My Documents\Ringtones

However, I'm on WinMo 6.5 maybe it's different...

No, you should be able to do it on 6.1 also...I did on my Mogul. Haven't tried it on the TP yet, but I fail to see any reason why it would be different.

they have to be .wav if your gonna use em for alerts and such.. only ringtones can be mp3

Uh....no...I've used MP3s for alerts, SMS, etc.

I had the Metal Gear incoming codec sound for my SMS incoming ^_^

Edit : O_O!! I don't see the "my ringtones" folder that I used to do that with...

Edit 2: HA! Got it. My Device/Windows/Rings Just copy any mp3 file in there, then when you go to Settings/Sounds & Notifications, it should appear in the dropdown ring tone menu. (Be sure to close out the sounds & notifications tab before or after you add to get them show up.)

I have something to add..
I was recently on 6.5 and I could put ANY type (wav/mp3/wma) in the My Documents/My Ringtones or Windows/Rings and I could choose them for whatever I wanted.
I went back to 6.1 the other day and now I am having a hell of a time putting my own ringtone/notification sounds in.

Here is what I've done so far,, will update when/if I find a way to do what I want.

1, Put my own sounds, wav, and mp3 into Windows/Rings, they both show up as a ringtone but wont show up for alerts/notifications.
2, Put the same sounds into My Documents/My Ringtones, same thing. They both show up for a ringtone but not for notification.
3, GOT IT.. Put them in the windows directory, now they both show up for alert/notifications but NOT for a ringtone.
