Setting Text Message Ringtone?

Hello i have a Sprint HTC TOuch Pro, i tried different roms and didnt seem to like them so i relocked my phone and went back to the factory ROM. Anyways, my question is how do you set txt message ring tone? I have my sound files in /windows/sounds also in my documents/my ringtones and also under /Sounds. Also have it setup up under Sounds & Notifications, but My rintone does not work still!! ](*,) I also believe my phone calls ringtone is set and also will not work either and i did the hold down the ringtone and clicked set as ringtone.

Text message ringtone need to be in just the windows folder then you can choose individual tones for each contact by editing the contact and choosing the ringtone.

Also file needs to be a .WAV and not an Mp3 or any other sound file format.. That's for ur txt messages!

Re: Setting Text Message Ringtone?

I'm on VZW and this is something I wanted to know as well. Is there a way to setup a text message alert custom for someone in my address book?

For example, I have an entry called "Dispatch" that's for my 911 Dispatch text messages. I want to set a custom text tone for just that address book entry, I see I can set a "ring tone" but will that affect text messages as well?

Thanks,

-Corey

u all do understand that if u set a song to play on a txt msg, it will play a decent protion of the file right? youll have to crop it down alot... and if your on the phone when a txt comes in,the song is going to play in your ear and u can silence it

I'm not looking to have a song play, I just need one entry for practical purposes to play something different...

I'm not looking to be a kid playing stupid songs when I get a text message, I want to differentiate between 9/11 dispatch messages and texts from friends, fiance, etc..

thanks,

-Corey

This answers your question.
it was stated above.

Convert whatever file you want to play into a .wav file and put it into your windows directory, problem solved.

you cant set an individual ring tone for each contact, at least not with whats on the vzn tp. there is a program out there that claims to do it but i dont remember what it was or if it really worked.

ringo is one of them that allows you to do so.

if you go into the contact details you can.
go to your contacts, then click a name, go to edit, and then there's a assign ringtone option. you can't do it through the manilla(touchflo3d) contacts page, you have to do it through the default one from microsoft.

Dashwire claims to backup settings and ringtones. I personally haven't used it for that purpose yet, but I have set up an account and it is pretty nice. I'm sure it will come in handy once I start flashing :-D
