Why does my phone turn on on its own?
 

HTC Pro with Sprint. It just unlocks on its own. This is annoying and drains the battery.

Did a search, and didn't find much.

Any advice? Thank you.

There's a few threads about this.
Basically, software running in the background can do this(tasks that don't show in the normal task manager), then there's push email, mms, anything that uses a data connection, I think i read somewhere if it changes mode (ie rev a to evdo or 1x) it does this also, etc etc.

Among a host of other excuses, I've witnessed that going in and out of EVDO will turn the phone on. OTH, I've had quite a few WM/PocketPC/PPC/WinCE devices through the years, PDA's, phones and PNA's. Virtually all have turned on for no apparent reason from time to time. Every forum I've been on going back to the Casio E105 days has had posts about it. No one has ever given a iron clad reason why that I'm aware of (signal, software, alarms, maitenance, etc.). I think MS considers it a feature. Like having the device turn on repeatedly to tell you it's battery is running low, killing said battery significantly faster. If I leave my phone in my basement office where signal is low, the phone will turn on repeatedly and it's not unheard of for it to stay on for prolonged periods too. My wifes Palm 755p will never do this.

actually if it's unlocking on it's own, that would mean you have a bad stylus or stylus switch.

That is what makes Pocket Shield such a great locker. It turns the device off in 15 seconds if you do not initiate an unlock sequence.
A loose stylus can also cause this behavior.

just install s2u2 and ignore it.

Try using this program to help you on your TP. This may help you tweak it a bit to stop it from turning on so much or at all.

Add it to your SD card and load it by clicking on the cab in your sd card folder.

wtf jmy? i noticed mine will turn on and keep turning on when i get a mms. makes me mad. it wakes up i go wtf i turn it off it turns back on i go WTF! turns on again and i go WTF!!!! and then it tells me that im getting a mms message. i

I've noticed mine turns on at 11:59:45 pm and stays on til it clicks over to midnight. I like it because my phone decides to tell me goodnight.

Also, I notice this when my phone switches to roam or drops signal in deadzone areas. Its why I use S2U2 now, that way if its in my pocket I don't open the clock menu or start calling anybody.

My kid and I both have TP's They both turn on at the exact same time while driving. We drive the same route home every night, and every time as we pass a particular spot our phones turn on. It's kind of creepy, but we think it occurs as we move from one cell site to the next.

Last night I was quite annoyed. I noticed my screen had turned on, so I flipped it off. About 25 seconds later, it came on again. I turned it off yet again. Same thing. 25 seconds later, it popped on. Hoping this was the last time, I pressed the power button.

It turned on again.

I switched off WiFi and it went back to normal.

This is number #3 on my list of reasons why I can't wait for a VGA Android phone.
