try not using windows live, but setting it up as a pop account.

use these settings -

in the beginning, for the email address, leave off the .com. just username@hotmail
your name - what ever you want people to see when you email them
account display name - identifying name of the account on your device
incoming mail server - pop3.live.com
account type - pop3
user name - your full email address, example username@hotmail.com
password - your password
check the box to save password
outgoing server - smtp.live.com
check the box for outgoing requires authentication
check the box for use the same username and password for sending
under advanced server setting, check both boxes for require ssl on incoming and outgoing and your connection should be the internet
next thru setting the user-defined fields until finished

POP is evil, hahah

There needs to be an easier way to set up push email that doesn't require dedicated servers or can be offered cheaply/for free by email providers.

Thanks a lot jer07734! I didn't know that about the hotmail account and it works perfectly!

I agree. POP is NOT an acceptable alternative... especially if you depend on keeping your messages where they belong and have a large inbox. The whole point of using the Windows Live app is to have all the other sync options including but not limited to email and contacts. I could live with IMAP for the email, but that still leave me unable to get my contacts.

And no, this has nothing to do with the order of the listing (Hotmail comes before Outlook anyway), nor does having an Exchange account setup have any impact.

Anyway, my Live account is just my personal account, and it's not something I consider critical enough to fuss over having the sound effect, especially since I check for other notifications often enough anyway.

It also will not let me delete the windows live account. i clicked & held on the account, but the option to delete was grayed out.

I think at times that it is windows live that gets screwy and phuk notifications up, nothing to do with our set up..

I experienced the same problem for a long time and just accepted it.

Then one day I decided to change my mail download interval from 15 minutes to real time/as they arrive.

After that change, the notification sound started working. :???:

Does this include changing it back to 15/30 minutes? And what impact does it have on your battery life leaving WL set to push mode?

Re: Windows Live Email not notifying

No, I never changed it back.

Honestly I didn't notice a major battery life difference. I now have all three of my accounts set up to real time downloading. I work from home on Mondays and I leave my phone sitting on my desk. After 8 hours of the phone just sitting, and me using it to make a few phone calls, it was at 80% battery life. That's fine for me. If I know I'm going to be away from a charger for a while, I'd probably change it to 15 minutes or more. But if I'm going to be away from a charger that long, I'm probably on vacation in which case I don't want to see any of my emails.
