does your phone stay in ev during a call or go to 1x?
 
noticed that whenever i place a call it goes to 1x. i thought if i am in a Ev area i would make calls in Ev

ev is evdo which is data. you can't have a data connection at the same time as a call, which goes through 1x, same as txts. you'll notice that while sending or receiving a txt, you'll switch to 1x.

yeah you cant use ev for anything but data. i once put my phone in ev only mode and forgot ..........yeah i set it back and got a lot of txts haha

Probbably a dumb questions but wouldn't txt's be cl***** as data?

MMS yes, but SMS is a very old protocol developed way before data was prevalent in cell phones. Carriers still use this protocol and therefore SMS relies on the same channel that is used for voice. This is the reason why even during a phone call you can still send and receive text messages.
