The first thing you'll want to do is return it and wait for the touch pro 2, which may or may not come out next month...

JK. Like most everyone else is saying, play around with it for a while. That way you'll know the standard for the phone, like battery life and whatnot. Then try all the registry edits/apps you find on threads like the essentials forum. Just as some things work, there are a lot that don't work. Only way to know is by getting to know your new device before putting all the extras on it. Have fun.

There are many many costomizations you can do without flashing your rom? Now I agree that flashing in the end ultimately is the way to go, but there is no need for it. You can pimp the stock rom almost as much. THat being said i am very happy with Mighty mikes rom. Anyways, there are cab files to change themes, clocks, etc. There are reg edits to do to make things perform better etc. So, In my opinion learn the ropes on that phone stock before even thinking about flashing. Flashing should be IMO when you know the rest of the phone pretty well to be able to trouble shoot if something goes wrong. Id give it a month of solid Stock ROm pimpin before you move to flashing. Thats My opinion. :headbang:

as I agree the TP2 is sweet and will probably be picking one up, That being said, the tp2 is not any better than the TP1, spec wise that is. Now, other than the few floating around over seas, We dont even know its a good phone, It may be crap. I know the screen size is nice but the battery life will not be that great (like this one is). Then they took away the flash/flashlight, and also the cpu is older. So, if your getting a tp1 and not waiting for the tp2, its not like your gonna miss something so, your good.:headbang:

Actually there has been countless rebutles to that battery not lasting as long,
users are saying it's actually alot better.
Both screens are bigger, has tilt capabilities also.
Straight talk (2 noise cancelling mics and speakers basically),
cpu is actually suppose to be more powerful and less power hungry as the tp1 is. the tp1's cpu is more of a new experimental cpu that didn't work as good as they hoped.
Don't let the model number of the cpu trick you,
doesn't mean anything...

I was going to go with the TP2, but it was the cost factor that made me go with a tp1.
(the fact 99.9999% of the software is ported over was also nice)
Verizon won't get the TP2 for another year,
and that means I'd have to pay full retail, which is ridiculous.
And means I wouldn't be able to get insurance.
Two major factors that I can't deal with due to me still paying my DUI fines
so I can get my license back
($25,000 in total, have 1,400-1,600 left, +other costs to apply for it back),
and I'm going to college. So I'm broke. :D:D

I'm not quite so sure you're correct about the cpu, just did a couple of searches and they are the same. True the screen is bigger and you now have straight talk, but you are also losing your directional pad, flash and the keyboard is 5 row, but if you have noticed you also don't have your control key on the keyboard so it won't have full functions like ctrl c or ctrl v for copy or paste. Also you won't have a dirctional pad unless the keyboard is slid open, the directional pad is very useful. Personally i will get a tp2 because i want the bigger screen but i can't walk around like my phone will be better then a tp1 cause it really isn't. Also the battery no one knows how good or bad it really is. The tp came out over seas 1st also and no one said the battery was bad before the cdma version came out.

i used stock rom for like a month till i got talked into flashing to mightyrom4 and i loved the difference. i thought i had my stock rom tweaked to the best but not after i flashed to a new rom. i am scared to go back to my stock :( also my phone can lasts 10 hours with normal use. but with hardcore txting prolly less than that but longer then my stock rom. the cpu is the same speed and stuff but its just older. idk what the difference really is though.

if you ask me, for "stickies" the essentials thread kinda sucks, theres some good stuff in there, but for a sticky, its kinda weak as far as cabs go.. link in my sig for tons of apps with links and descriptions..
