So, I've switched to all 1x for daily use
 

I was getting killed on both reception and battery at home. I get just enough signal to keep the phone cycling between EVDO and 1x, and so my battery life was horrible and I lost a lot of calls.

I bought one of those repeater things from verizon . . . probably stupid, since it's 1x only and cost about the same as a dual-band one. I now get perfect reception in the whole house, no dropped calls, and very little battery drain.

For online stuff, I use wifi. Almost all the time, if I want online access, I'm either in front of an actual computer (at work) or I'm at home with wifi.

The switch back to hybrid is a lot of clicks. There's a script on the board that toggles between 1x only and hybrid, but I can't get it to work for me. But day-to-day, EVDO isn't something I need as much as I need a working phone.

Maybe this is dumb, but it seems to be working out ok.
