Alltel Touch Pro GPS Help Thread

I think I am having the same problem as everyone else with the Alltel TP GPS. I have absolutely no luck finding satellites in my hometown, yet if I travel out of my hometown I can get signal 99% of the time. I tried locking in while I was driving back from work (Ocala, FL) to my hometown (Sarasota, FL) and it worked all the way to my house. As soon as I turned I turned Google Maps off it couldn't find me anymore.

I have tried all the tricks to make it work including the obvious "turn on my location".

If anyone have a solution that works please let me know. I have heard that if you use the Alltel Nav program then the GPS picks up very well, so there must be something there.

I have an Alltel TP (got it the day it was released) and have *never* had any issues. I have done no tweaks or anything. I am running the most recent Conflipper ROM but in the past have also cooked with Calcu's kitchen. Maybe I am lucky, but always locks quickly.

Most of the ROMs I've used have Quick GPS built in, but when I use it the screen says "Download Time: Not yet downloaded, Valid Time: EXPIRED" and when I click the download button it connects and then says "Connection Failed, please try again later."

Consequently, when using say Google Maps, it's unable to find My Location and also unable to find any GPS statellites.

I thought at first this was because I needed to set up a subscription or something to GPS through Alltel... is that the case? On my GFs phone she uses Alltel Navigation and it's able to find her just fine.

Try again when your Pro is connected to your computer. This always works for me, and then set on auto update. Should have no issue going forward.

I feel your pain Gators...I too have an Alltel Touch Pro and live in Bradenton with no luck on recieving a lock. I can get a lock in Venice sometimes but anytime Im north of Tampa it locks instantly. I've updated PRL and run quick gps often...Its just that area of florida that doesnt work for me. Didn't work with my ppc 6800 either.

Ah, got hopeful for a second there, but after making sure the option to Auto download via ActiveSync was enabled, restarting my phone, and connecting through ActiveSync, the progress bar still quickly moves from 0% to 100% and then tells me "Connection Failed, please try again later."

Could it be a problem with Quick GPS being cooked into the ROM? Or am I on the right track thinking maybe GPS access is something I need to subscribe to / activate through Alltel first? I have an unlimited data plan, but I don't know if that includes GPS as well.

Edit - Fixed. Location settings were turned off and COM settings for GPS were set to wrong port. Corrected and GPS is up and running.
