Getting a lot of late text messages....

So i've been having a lot of problems where I get text messages very late....2 or 3 hours late....and when you are dealing with girls....this is a problem...and its annoying....I've also heard I miss some calls not even going through.....this has been an on going thing through several roms, should I take to Sprint store or is this commonish problem?

This can be fixed, what youll have to do is call up sprint tech support, and tell them you need to reprogram your phone just like during activation where they give you some codes to put in, after you've done that, then change to antoher Radio, i would suggest the Telus radio works the best.
Problem solved.

i agree except about the telus radio working the best. it all depends on what area you're in what carrier you have and what you want the radio to improve for you....if i were you i'd try 2 or 3 and see which ones work best.

calling tech for an account reset, should do it, but yes it's a common problem with sprint. just make up your minds, nextel or byetel.

I'll add a +1 to Sprint problem.

It was happening to me in my apartment, a LOT. My first call resulted in a tech telling me to "leave my phone by the window because that's what she had to do." That really wasn't a feasible answer because it made no difference.

A few calls later I got an airave and it seemed to fix the problem. I noticed if I forced my phone to roam, on VZW/Alltell towers, texts would be delivered immediately, every time... and I wouldn't miss calls any more. If you know something important is incoming, just force the phone to roam.

This is a big problem glad you said this because I am having the same problem. I called Sprint like Merdinh said and they reprogrammed me. No kidding, it worked, for about 5 hours. That night I went back to the Sprint 1.11 radio to try it and still no luck. I am going to try Telus radio, but it was working great, even when someone sent 2 or 3 at a time which always seems to clog the system. I have no idea what to do haha. I am getting tired of this but since I only text pretty much it needs to work! Haha. Anyone have any ideas besides a network refresh and reprogramming phone? They did both yesterday. I have plenty of service too.

I spent hours and hours trying the suggestions posted here to no avail. I even swapped out my Pro several times and the problem never got better. After being a customer of theirs for 10 years, I finally couldn't take it any more and hacked my phone to work on Verizon. It's really unfortunate because I like Sprints pricing & phone selection the most.

Re: Getting a lot of late text messages....

I had one recently that Sprint delivered almost a week late. I find the same issue on my Mogul so it would seem to be more network related than device related.

This problem has been posted here literally hundreds of times & in every single case it is a Sprint customer. I had Sprint for two years & had almost constant never ending problems with SMS (texting).

I had texts come in hours late, not show up until the next day & in some cases just plain never show up at all.

Since texting is a valuable tool in my line of work, this was totally unacceptable. I finally switched back to Verizon (I never should have left in the first place) & the problem is fixed period (I use a Sprint TP with Merdin's awesome 6.5 ROM, but it is activated on VZ)

If I send a text now, the recipient gets it 30 seconds later 99.9% of the time. I'm no Verizon fanboy, I hate VZ as a company the same as anybody here. They are arrogant, there prices are higher & they cripple their phones & all of that irritates me.

The problem is, when they say they have the best network coverage & service they are 100% correct & nothing anybody says here is going to change that..........

Re: Getting a lot of late text messages....

For the most part my texting is instant on Sprint, with the occasional hiccup every so often. Although I have gotten a couple way after the fact, usually less then 1 hour but it has happened. Since it works fine 99% of the time i'll chalk those up to the game. If its important enough they'll call if I don't respond in a timely manner.

Re: Getting a lot of late text messages....

yea, I don't think this issue cropped up until they merged with nextel, something with the way they spliced the systems is making servers crash or vulnerable to overload or something. hopefully verizon don't do the same with alltel, although I think nextel had a very unique system.

Ditto. I haven't had many texts come in or arrive late either.

If it were that much of an issue though I can always force my phone to roam on Verizon. Then I get that Verizon coverage mentioned in here without the Verizon price gouging. Either way I should be more than fine :D

Hi all. First post, love the site. Still a bit confused amidst the wave of information but making headway!

Anyways, I have this problem as well. Thing is I think it's just because bad service where I'm currently living. Could it be that simple?

Even if it is just bad service , could doing some of those things improve it anyways? Might as well tweak as much as possible ^^

I would like to learn how to change the radio regardless, and how do I force the phone to roam? Just now I got a few texts at the right time , and it might be chance/coincidence, but my phone did indeed have the roaming icon.

You need a new radio to avoid overheating which we have decided can make the keyboard problem come up either all together or sooner than normal. Go here and follow steps:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=61333

Then go here and get radio:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=46616

Finally go here and follow steps to flash, I recommend the sd card way, its so much easier:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=43266

One more thing, don't worry about all your stuff going missing, this will not cause a hard reset, I do recommend flashing the radio twice tho. So just follow last step 2 times. Backup your phone anyway, and I am not responsible for anything that happens.

Thanks bro, will do when I get back Monday! Is there a list of things on the forum that flashing a new radio helps, or could you just gimme the rundown?

When we had our Nextel's it was almost impossible to text anyone:( It was painful waiting for them to download, if they even did, sometimes they wouldn't....So now I feel like I am in Heaven LOL, I have noticed just a few late texts, but it tends to be a repeat of one I go right away, just coming through again...Either way I can't complain after dealing with Nextel textnig for years. :)

Re: Getting a lot of late text messages....

I really don't have too much of a problem with late texts....here recently its gotten wayyyyyyy better. I tested it out, with my wife sitting with me on the patio, I had her text me, sometimes it came right through, sometimes there was a few minutes lag....We both had perfect reception so that led me to believe that its on sprints end.

It will make the phone run cooler and it will improve download speeds basically.

Re: Getting a lot of late text messages....

I have a quick idea, there is a way to have your wifi and bluetooth turned on and off by putting a shortcut to an app on your start menu, maybe someone could make a cab that enabled roam only then a shortcut that turned it on and off by pressing it. This would work great because if you weren't planning on having any calls you could roam and get texts on time, then if you wanted to call someone or browse around on evdo you could just turn it right off!! I am pretty sure this would work great! If someone could show me how to do this I would definitely develop this, I have the software to make an app, but I don't think an app is necessary, just a shortcut and a regedit I think. Anyone can help?

Edit: Found a part of this, this post has the cab to make the TP roam only:

Thats exactly what I have to use. I get barely one bar in my house so I have to force roaming. Be careful though. They shut me off once and said I had to find a new carrier. I called and *****ed and said how can you expect me to sell your product if I can't use the damn service?? They said ok were sorry give us a minute and they haven't bothered me again in 3 years.

Cool, glad you got it worked out. The problem I am having is that I have full service but I can't get my texts on time half the time! So I guess it may piss off Sprint, but I was thinking that I could switch back and forth for calling and texting. Like if someone calls I can not answer, turn it back on Sprint and call them back. Then switch back when I'm texting again. It seems like a hassle, but I think it could work.

Why does roaming get txts better and original network get calls better?
I just talked to a sprint rep and she said it's better to roam in low/no service areas.

Also, apparently I've always had unlimited roaming (I'm on the Everything 450 plan + Data).

All Sprint is unlimited roam now I think. The towers that are altell and verizon which you would be roaming on seem to get texts through better. That is the general idea, it seems to work for me.

You do.

The thing is, I had decent service. 3/7 bars EVDO, 6/7-7/7 1x (which is what texts are transmitted over). Roaming to VZW I had 7/7 1x every time.

It's just the way Sprint handles text messages which causes them to not be pushed to the device in a timely manner. Sprint's network is at fault, and with the continued rise in popularity of text messages, they REALLY need to fix this or they will start losing customers. Hell, they already are, but the problem is only going to get worse.

Edit: Any time I say "texts" I mean all 1x notifications, calls and VM included... the device doesn't seem to check the tower frequently enough (though changing the polling interval made no difference) and the tower won't push them through. It's almost as if the phone becomes disconnected from the tower till you force it to re-connect by making a call or sending a text. That's what I noticed, my phone would "disconnect" like clockwork about 15-20 minutes after I finished a call or sent a text, and texts and calls would stop coming through, forcing me to call my voicemail again to get messages pushed through.

I see, thanks alot guys for the rundown. As I was reading your responses I was holding my phone near the window lol...

This issue has been recurring for me ever since I've had Sprint, but only when I have little to no service.

I'm moving at the beginning of August; will be my first time living in EVDO coverage, WOOT! I'm so excited lol, been paying for unlimited data plan and only having 1x :(

Going to flash Telus now ;) Thanks again!

I've noticed a late text every now and then and thought it was my phone, glad to see it isn't. I just unlocked/flashed my phone and would like to try a new radio. (I don't know if that is separate or not) I tried to click the link for the radios but I'm not authorized?? Am I doing something wrong? TIA
