EDIT <PPST or something I did killed data connection (juicy / mighty not the problem)

I unlocked a new htc tp and installed several different roms...juicy, mighty..etc. the phone works but the data connection (#777) will not work. I have even installed the vzw rom back to the device with no effect. Yes I have paid my bill and yes I have data plan.

The error message says username or password is not correct. After talking with vzw t/s they said to enter;

username: 925xxxxxxx@vzw3g.com
password: vzw

Still does not work. I have seen post which described deleting the connection and creating new with no user/password. Still no luck.

Hard and Soft reset have been done...no effect.

WTF!!!!!

I hope someone has an idea...I'm stuck.

best.

I thought I read somewhere that the password for verizon phones is the last 7 of your phone. No idea if that is true or not as I use only sprint.

try what rekphiv said and get back to us

Re: !Juicy / Mighty Roms Killed Data Connection!

Password for any data connection on Verizon is vzw. The username is your 10 digit phone number @vzw3g.com

You may have to get data reset done (or switch to another phone with data and switch back--this is how I fix my data, same as resetting since its being setup for a new device on Verizons side).

frostj9445 05-30-2009 02:56 AM

Re: !Juicy / Mighty Roms Killed Data Connection!

tried rekphiv's suggestion. nope

rondutt:

can you elaborate...you activate a different phone then switch back to original phone? Is there a cleaner way?

What if I have only one phone?

I'm getting frustrated...sorry.

RonDutt 05-30-2009 05:06 AM

Re: !Juicy / Mighty Roms Killed Data Connection!

Find a friend or someone here willing to let you use their ESN/MEID to activate if you only have 1 smartphone data capable device. I can't recall the exact term but most techs should know what you're talking about if you tell them you need your data key reset. This process takes upwards of a week though, so it's faster/advised to activate another smartphone then switch back to your TP. This way a new key is made for the new smartphone, and when you switch back another key is made for your Touch Pro. Do a OTA (*228) and you'll have data back.

Re: !Juicy / Mighty Roms Killed Data Connection!

Ok, I can go to my office and get a diamond. So I need to;

1. Call 800 number and have verizon activate the diamond.
-will automatic update work or do I need to speak with rep and give esn?
2. Dial *228 on diamond
3. Call 800 number again and activate tp
4. Dial *228 on tp

Any Idea why this happened? I have seen very few threads with same issue.

Thanks for your help rondutt.

Re: !Juicy / Mighty Roms Killed Data Connection!

You probably just have a hung data session. I was able to get that fixed once with tier 2 data tech support from Verizon (took about an hour, after I got with someone who understood the problem). Level 1 tech tried to sell me a new phone and 2 year contract, LOL.

Edit: this is exactly what happened to me when I was flashing ROMs and switching devices between my Apache and 700wx. The advice I got (not exactly relevant in your case but pertinent to anyone who ESN swaps smartphones) was to turn off the data connection and exhchange/activesync push and always wait about 5 minutes before doing the ESN swap. That way the system knows the old device is disconnected. I've never had a problem since.

Edit 2: I'm with Sprint now, in case you're wondering why I'm talking about Verizon but my profile may say otherwise. I was with Verizon for about 7 years.

Re: !Juicy / Mighty Roms Killed Data Connection!

Do you think rondutt's suggestion about activating a different phone will work?

Also, I like the mighty rom best...I want to leave on the device but have a concern.

The warning message when using mighty is;

Error Code 67 Registration Error; your pcs Vision username/password is incorrect. Please try again.

This is obviously a pcs message. Is this what caused the problem in the first place. I can't believe I'm the first to use mighty5 on a vzw tp.

You may have to do a ##786# and revert to the original PRI because it sounds like you lost the data passwords. Be forewarned,
this will perform a hard reset. Originally posted by Mutiny32,.. I have sprint and did this and it worked like a charm, it took me 16hrs for this fix sprint couldnt even help me..!! Edit.. I had the very same error code 67 ..just tap on the menu and it should reset..Good Luck

You're not the first to put mightyrom on your VZW TP, that's just a generic error message.

Your unlock code should be 00000 (six zeroes). If it's not, you're lying to us

haus 05-30-2009 12:00 PM

Re: !Juicy / Mighty Roms Killed Data Connection!

For VZW the unlock code is always 000000 (that's the MSL, master subsidy lock). I thought most of the custom ROMs were not carrier specific, but I'm out of my league here. Hopefully there's no way for a ROM to change the MSL on the phone (I don't think so - like I said I'm out of my league here). I assume you've thoroughly searched the MightyROM 5 thread to see if anyone else has reported anything like this and how they solved it...strange. Obviously it's worth flashing the stock verizon ROM while you're troubleshooting just to be sure you've solved any carrier/network issues before you keep changing things on the phone.

Won't I have to re-program the phone number after this? How do I do that?

...and I can't find the pasword for this.

MSL Grabber v1.0.0.1 Download that and and run it, it should give you a 6 digit msl code, which is your unlock code. YOu shouldnt have to reprogram anything other than all your custom settings because the phone will hard reset. Make sure you transfer this cab file to your phone, like on your sd card to save it... then run..!! Install to main memory..

YOu was able to get your unlock code/ msl code Right.? And do it do a hard reset, making your phone stock to the rom you have.?
Man that was the only thing that would work for me.

Did you run PPST.exe on your phone? That might have broken your data passwords if you did.

Re: !Juicy / Mighty Roms Killed Data Connection!

but how do i get the sprint pri off that the phantom rom put on my tp? I didn't catch this mishap till I over-wrote energy rom with the phantom cus energy killed my net connection but not my mms on a cricket hacked tp. got everything way it should be, but when i make a call, american roaming network takes the call asking to either choose to do a collect call or use a pin from a credit account. searched hofo for the hofo beta v1.0 that was on phone when i bought it, but no luck.

RonDutt 05-30-2009 05:33 PM

Re: !Juicy / Mighty Roms Killed Data Connection!

Just grab another phone and do *228, enter your TP's phone number and activate it (make sure your TP is off--pull the battery). You may be forwarded to Customer Support this way so do it via VerizonWireless.com if you have a login. Wait about 5 minutes then activate your TP again using *228 yadda yadda. If you don't have data, do a OTA prograpping (*228 option 1 I think). If this is a Verizon phone, you'll be set to go. If not, you'll have the roaming triangle. There are Verizon PRL's floating around here that alter what tower codes so the phone thinks you're on the correct home network (basically, a Sprint phone has the PRI that points it to Sprint's towers as being home. Even if you flash to Verizon, the PRI hasn't been totally hacked yet so it'll still see Sprint as Home towers and Verizon as roaming. The PRL update here makes the ID's of the towers reverse--the Sprint towers have the code for Verizon (thus become roaming) and the Verizon get the code for Sprin (becoming home). Let me know if it works out for ya...fixed data issues on probably 10 TP's/Diamonds this way over the months.

it's for cricket, not vz. There is no ota with cricket. This is my 4th ppc. Tons of flashing, and never has on any phone thru cricket does *228 work. I need to program phone my self, when done use it. fallowed steps in other roms telling me to download, flash, dial *228. everything worked but dialing *228. all value stings are in radio (pst)

RonDutt 05-30-2009 07:50 PM

Re: !Juicy / Mighty Roms Killed Data Connection!

All *228 does is update the info in your EPST. You can do ##778# or ##775# (and enter your MSL) and update the info yourself. For data, try switching between the Active Mobile Profile (by default its on 0, switch to 1, soft reset, switch to 0 and check).

and flashing these roms toasted my tp as well. How cluttered would this site be if instead of posting a reply, everyone started a new thread?

comment like that was as usefull as me searching and searching, and googling, and waiting for days looking for an answer til i get nowhere and have to actually ask, then some joker replying SEARCH.

yeah sometimes custom roms go bad. my phone was fine, and the next morning wouldnt connect to the web, when its all said and done, i had to re-lock and reflash a sprint rom, and then thru a couple hours of troubleshooting and testing, somehow the phone forgot its own MSL(NO MSL worked, not the device one, temporary one, even a ##786# wouldnt work), and I had to get a replacement. SO yes, sometimes custom roms can hose your baby

yeah, I'll try to summarize for the next guy....

1. Flashing to stock rom and ##786# had no effect.
2. Activating on a different phone (HTC Touch Diamond) then reprogramming on htc tp had no effect.
3. Tried several roms / hard resets.
4. Tried using no user / password & xxxxxxxxxx@vzw3g.com / vzw. Nope.
5. Believe it or not Verizon fixed this one...I tried to get the ts to explain what he did...you can imagine how that converstation went. Apparently he was able to rebuild my data connection on his end, it was corrupted. After a hard reset all was good.

I'm not going to test it but I think Mutiny32 might be on to something. I'm pretty sure I ran ppst.exe while connected to my pc through active sync. When connected to activesync I never had any problems because my phone was using the wireless connection on the laptop. As soon as I unpluged usb...bad user / password.

Like I said I'm not interested in testing...but I'M GOOD NOW!!!! TP is waaaay better to use then the Diamond, even with the trouble, I'm glad I switched.

Thanks to everyone....i tried hit the thanks button for each individual, sorry if I missed anyone.

YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

custom roms are not the cause of the problem. It's the user making a mistake. In your case, you probably ran the Update PRI or Update PRL program and it corrupted your pst settings. It is a common problem and threre is an easy fix. You just do ##786# - menu - reset like mentioned earlier in this thread and problem fixed. You didn't have to get a replacement from sprint. There's a whole thread about it here. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...&highlight=dcd Just FYI.

In my case it was not the roms...they were fine. Verizon told me it was a corruption on their end. ##786# did not work.

frosty, thanks for posting your fix. I've come across a similar issue on my phone (separate thread started for it here). Coming across this solution, I decided to call verizon to see if they could straighten it out for me as they have for you. Did you have to get escalated to the network repair team? I got up to tier 2, and they informed me that DMU key resets (which is what I'm guessing the tech did for you) are handled by a separate team, which is going to take 24-48 hours to get back to me. Does any of this sound familiar?
