Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
You can use WMWifirouter and the X-Box WiFi adapter.
Here's another thread asking the same thing in regards to the Mogul- http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=408225 Hope this helps ya out, and if it does, don't forget to hit the "Thanks" button ;) -Keir- |
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
You could theoretically tether to your computer, then share that connection via ethernet to your xbox, as for a direct usb tether? unlikely

wait... net share rely's on active sync (i think) and I'm not sure if xbox would take a modem. hmm, oh well, I've got insomnia.. and I never liked xbox anyway... taking RARE away from the rest of the gaming community.. shame :angry7: |
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
I'm confused by this question. If you're interested in connecting to xbox live through a wifi connection through your phone, this is definitely possible with the wireless network adapter for the xbox. Please keep in mind that it is pretty much useless though since most games require full broadband speeds, so good luck keepin up with a lagging red team/blue team if you happen to get a connection in the first place.
|
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
If you have the xbox360 wireless adapter, you can definitely tether as others have said with wmwifirouter. However the latency for cell phone data connections is usually around 100-200ms, which are upper DSL to low 56-k levels, if you happen to remember those days.
The bandwidth however should be more than enough, so you shouldn't experience too much stuttering in the game, but expect the 100-200ms latency to impact your gameplay and reaction time (i.e. dieing in halo when you could've swore you shot him in the face first). As long as you keep the phone in one place, the data throughput should be decently stable. I've tethered my phone to my laptop plenty of times and been able to stream hulu and other sites while on a bus traveling 60mph |
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
For the love of God and all that is holy, if you get this to work, please do not play COD4 multiplayer. I hate when slow connections lag out a server I am in and since I pay for 12MB cable, I hate it even more.

my uncle, when they cut through the cables by his house and it took a month to get them repaied tethered through his tp with wmwifrouter and the usb wifi adapter. expect phone to get hot enogh to cook with. also know batt drains faster then ability to charge - he has a dock w/ spare batt. high latency but a 1.5 meg connection

i tether over wifi on xbox 360 and bluetooth on ps3 and it fast well it lags sometimes dippends if u get higher then 1500 peaks then ur good if its under that speed no good i use to get 2900 on ev when i lived in el paso tx

Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
Sure, it will work, for the most part, for you. But if the game happens to choose you as the "best" host, everyone is screwed. Also, in games like COD4, if you are lagging even a little, you will cost me a head shot. And that, my friend, just pisses me off.
I personally think that XBL should test your bandwidth and latency and not even allow you to play multiplayer if you are below are certain threshold. But maybe that's why I don't work at Miscrosoft. Or maybe it's because if I worked at Microsoft I would really be working... |
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
I tether my 360 through a network bridge on my laptop. It's a piece of cake in Vista. It doesn't usually lag but data usage is a bear. It uses between 15-25mb an hour of bandwidth during Halo3, COD or GTA4 multi-player and much more if you host, which adds up fast. Don't exceed the Sprint 5GB limit!
|
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
sounds possible top do it ... but would vzw find out about the data usage?? How much usage can 1 expect to burn??is wmwifi router free?
|
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
See my post right above you for data amounts that I've been using. Don't know about how vzw will react to an uptick in your data transfer, I've always heard they were tight on bandwidth usage, but I have no personal experience with them. They will see your usage for sure, so make sure you have unlimited data and even still, use it in moderation. I keep track of my time online and figure every hour at 25MB to be safe. It's one of the main reasons I am a Sprint devotee, they rarely mess with customers about data transfer unless you are off the charts on a steady basis.

Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
It works completely fine for me you can do it on of two ways you can use wmwifirouter as everyone has already stated or you can tether to you pc and connect your pc to you xbox then bridge the connections, this is good if you don't have to wireless adapter for xbox.

I did it with WMWifiRouter and the wireless adapter with my Mogul. Haven't tried it with my Touch Pro. dwizzy130 |
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
I wrote a full tut. for this on my Touch back-in-the-day. It is possible to connect it to the computer and BRIDGE the connection to your ethernet connection. Xbox Live is kinda slow...
|
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
To bridge through your laptop, connect an ethernet cable to your pc. Go to Network and Sharing in Vista control panel and highlight your newly connected LAN connection and also your mobile phone internet connection, right click and choose the option to create a network bridge. This should do it from what I remember. Now go to your 360 Windows Media Center tab on your xbox live menu to set up a media extender, Find the tab for setup and it should be pretty self-explanatory from there. The Tasks tab will even show you your connection speed in graph form and tell you what tasks the connection speed is capable of doing (gaming, netflix HD, music streaming etc). It will also optimize your connection if necessary. You definitely need a full EVDO Sprint connection from your phone for the gaming to be acceptable. Also, I have done wireless with wmrouter too, but like any wireless connection, it is not as fast as a wired one and if you don't already have a xbox360 wifi adapter, it will set you back close to $100.

If it works and then stops suddenly, God saw me get back on and kicked you off so that you wouldn't lag out a room I am in. Just try again later and when I get off you will probably be allowed on again... |
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
is it possible to get a computerless bridge like a module like if you dont have a laptop?
i didnt think so because of the settings thatr needed but my friend suggests it is |

Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
Looking at connection statistics, I can understand why you guys would think that 1.5 mb/s is laggy, but the latency is good and it really is ok for the most part. Most people I play with are amazed. Sometimes it can get laggy, especially during peak usage periods. Thats when the right thing to do, is get off the server. Believe me, I obviously prefer my 30+mb/s Roadrunner Extreme , but I am on the road alot and hotel wifi is usually so latent, it's ridiculous, so I have to make do with what I've got.

Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
Hello :-D Does Anyone know how to do the xbox 360 connection wit a Mac???

Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
bridging the connection is working for me. I have my pc connected to the internet right now via my phone and the connection is bridged with a LAN cable from my nic on the pc direct to my xbox. There is a link light. I'm able to browse the web on this pc. I am not using a crossover as both ends (pc and xbox) have gigabit ethernet nics which are auto switching.
added the xbox to trusted zone in Zonealarm. Everything is set to auto. Did not prompt me, but did NOT work until I rebooted PC after bridging connections. Internet connection sharing I spent a long time trying to figure out, bridging was simpler. |
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
a few months back I started sharing internet with my neighbor who was willing to pay the cable ransom. ;b lol anyway, I dusted off an old linksys router that the wan port had been fried by a surge. I put dd-wrt on it, and set the wifi as wan so now I have a true router/lan config.
the other week he must have missed the bill or something, and he didn't have service for a few days. but it was nice and quick to just log into the router and have it connect to wmwifi, even easier than bridging imo. |
Re: Tether To Xbox Live!
I just found this out for myself just last night! This is amazing breakthrough for me! I was playing modern warfare 2 with absolutely NO LAG! My connection is nothing but super fast and I love it! Watching movies on Netflix in HD is great! I love it! Though the phone does get hot I just zipblock it in a couple bags and submerse it in a small container with ice and water and I am good to go! YAY ME!!!!!!!!

Doesn't everyone dunk their phone in ice water when it gets hot...??? LMAO!!!! Its all good though bro, you do what you gotta do. I usually just leave the keyboard open and hit the power button and it only gets a little warm.
