Something happened recently to my Sprint Touch Pro that caused (at least) the following:

(1) I cannot download CAB files using PIE, i get the message in the post title.
(2) I cannot install CABs, the installation always fails.
(3) "Remove Programs" in Settings is empty.

So it seems as if some security settings have been messed up. I have searched everywhere and cannot find a solution for this. I did install Twikini recently, and have heard of others who had the same problem after doing so (so beware of this). Not much else is changed on my device. It just happened a few days ago.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Is there something in the registry that I can fix? Where would it be, HKLM\Security? Can someone export their settings and post them?

Not yet, I'm trying to find a way to fix it first before going through the hassle of a hard reset. Any ideas?

Honestly sounds very unlikely to be fixed without a hard reset. What you're describing sounds like the epitome of issues for which that's the only solution.

well, you could try manually running the provxml's in \windows\

The more I research it, the more confident I am that the answer lies in HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies. Anyone with a stock Sprint Touch Pro want to post what they have there so I can compare to mine?

OK, I was wrong. I found a backup of my registry from January, and compared it to my current registry. Nothing is different in HKLM\Security\Policies.

I did a diff of the two, and there are a total of 510 differences. Some I recognize or can explain, but most of it I don't understand. :(

Has anyone ever experienced this problem before and fixed it? (except for the crazy Pocket Word fix which doesn't work for me)

i had similar issues and only a hard reset fixed it.

I know that SKTOOL can disable a setting in TP that requires certificate for dowload just like that Vista bs when it first came out....couldnt dowload jack w/o disabling that requirement for signature..., I am not sure where the exact registry is though
