New HTC Touch Pro Alltel Newb Guide <need>

Hello you guys :)

Please don't kill me if this has been posted and asked 10000x times :protest: lol.

I just ordered two Alltel HTC Touch Pros and they will be here shortly - couldn't pass them up at $79.99 a piece, and my contract is very near expiration.

Anyway, I've been reading most of the 'how-to's' on flashing / unlocking / and installing MightyRom, but I still don't feel very comfortable on doing this without confirmation that I have it right, especially if I don't have the steps in the right order.

I have attempted to flash other devices in the past, most with success, but some with complete and total failure. I bricked my PSP badly before getting it right.

From what I've gotten so far, this is what I need to do:

1) install netCF3.5 on windows
2) sync phone with PC
3) back up everthing with PimBackup
4) run HardSPL.exe from Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037
(this should 'unlock' the phone, right?)

5) install MightyRom (any special steps here?)
6) hard reset
7) install Advanced Configuration Tool (how are programs like this transferred to the phone, and where do i put them?)

Is it necessary to install programs like HTC Performance when MightyRom is installed, or does MightyRom take care of most of the performance issues?

If my steps are wrong, would it be possible for someone to post a step-by-step how-to from beginning to end, taking it very slow and not using any acronyms? (screenshots woudl be killer) Keep in mind - this is my first 'smart phone'.

thanks in advance for the help - and sorry for all of the Q's :) I feel like an idiot, but this is 100% new to me.

-Garrett

When i try to do #4, it just asks me if i want to turn the phone off

How to Flash Via PC:

1.download the ruu.zip attachment
2.unzip to your desktop
3.then in the newly created RUU directory add the rom of your choice - (copy the RUU_Signed.nbh to desktop\RUU)
4.Place phone in bootloader mode (power button while holding volume down button)
5.open the ROMUpdateUtility.exe
6.follow the RUU on screen instructions from there

You gotta hit the reset button with the stylus while holding power and volume down

You can usually skip step 4. If your phone is connected with AS & you execute the ROMUpdateUtility.exe, the phone will automatically reboot into bootloader & flash automatically as long as it's unlocked first.

this might sound stupid and i think i just figured out my problem..........you have to put the rom of my choice into the same RUU folder ?

and if i understand things correctly, the ROMUpdateUtility.exe and the rom of my choice run and install together

Sounds about right. The RUU.zip is just the Rom Update Utility. You would then put a rom (usually ends in .nbh) in the same folder as the RUU and when you run the .exe, it should detect the rom and install

ok so I:

1) unlock w/ Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037
2) unzip RUU and throw MightRom's nbh file in the directory
3) profit

what is this about the Arcsoft Alltel MMS 5.0.69.44 file and what does it do? is it a CAB file? how is it installed?
