Traveling w/ Touch Pro and Wifi

I will be taking a trip overseas. I would like to bring my Touch Pro to use for checking my email. Is there a way to turn off the data so that it will only use Wifi when available and I won't get hit with expensive roaming charges? Thanks in advance.

Who is your carrier? Your phone shouldn't even be able to connect overseas, so you shouldn't get any extreme roaming charges. The roaming charges would be from roaming on another carriers towers. If you have Sprint, Alltel/Verizon your phone is CDMA, and countries overseas use GSM technology, so you wouldn't be able to connect to their towers/systems anyways.

If you go here-
Settings>Connections>Comm Manager you can turn shut off everything but Wi-Fi mode.

Hope this helped ya out, and if it did, don't forget to hit the green "Thanks" button in the lower right corner ;)

lol just bustin your b@lls I think he's talking about how it trys to auto connect to data and waste battery but you should be correct.
"The Sprint HTC Touch Pro and HTC Touch Diamond are CDMA only devices and will not work
in countries that use the GSM technology standard (for example, most of Europe uses
GSM). However the HTC Touch Pro and HTC Touch Diamond will work in approximately 35
countries that utilize CDMA technology, such as Canada and Mexico."

I'll second the question - where are you going? Unless it's one of a handful of countries in Asia, you won't need to worry as there isn't any CDMA signal to be found - most everywhere else uses GSM.

Your phone will be a PDA only. Might as well put it in flight mode when you're not using data. It will happily kill its battery trying to find towers that are 6K miles away ;)

Also, just to make it even more fun, even wifi has additional channels in non-US locals, so there's a slight chance you won't be able to connect via wifi.

All that said, just turn off the radios you don't want to use as others have said.

Thanks for all the help. I am going to the carribbean and I checked Sprints site and they claim to have service but it is expensive. So I will be renting a phone down there for local calls and such.

the Caribbean isnt "over seas". i was there in Oct and i believe they have CDMA coverage. check with your carrier too see what islands have coverage. i just put my 6800 in flight mode because i would have gotten killed with text from out cad system(im a paid fire fighter and we get text for our calls).

correct. "Your Sprint PCS phone can make and receive calls through the world - including Canada, Mexico, China, India, countries in Asia Pacific, Central and South America, and several islands in the Caribbean."
