quick cab question
I'm not sure exactly how to ask this question, so I'll give an example:
Say I create a cab file which does nothing but copy a set of manila files to the windows directory. I install the cab Later I 'uninstall' the cab by going to 'remove programs'. Question - when I installed the cab originally, if a file in the cab already exists in /windows, will the original file be backed up so that when I uninstall it will restore the original files? |
Re: quick cab question
no it just overwrites the file and deletes the original
|
Re: quick cab question
OK, thanks.
I wonder if I can do file operations in the cab to backup the original files? But then I guess I'd need a way to restore them on the uninstall. Oh well. I was just trying to figure out a quick way to be able to swap out icon sets easily. |
Re: quick cab question
why not just make a cab with the original files so when u uninstall u just install the old one
|
Re: quick cab question
OK :):) - that's a good idea - I was obviously over-thinking this!
Thanks! (and I hit that button :)) |
Re: quick cab question
If you're overwriting stock manila you can just uninstall and the original files come back on reboot. If you're overwriting/overcabbing already changed files and you want to restore to the last change then yes, you'd need to back up before install or reinstall the first cab....
