If you are using the stock Sprint ROM, you will need a separate tethering plan from Sprint, or will need to use a program like WMWifi. If you are using a cooked ROM, such as most of the one's we have in the CDMA upgrades forum, then you don't need to have a separate data plan, and can use the included internet sharing option on the phone when you hook up the USB cable to your computer.

If you don't have any data plan on your phone, and tether you will get charged 2 cents per kilobyte, unless its 3cents already

or use WMwifi to borrow someones WiFi, just remember to give it back

I would recommend an unlimited data plan, but I use PDAnet. I paid about $40 for it, and it works great. It lets me connect my laptop to the internet through the phone.
