THIS IS FOR SPRINT Touch Pro's as far as i know...i have not tested this for any other carrier or phone so use at your own risk...

edit: tested on the touch diamond...confirmed working!

first things first dont click on the Update PRI Button under Settings>Connections

save yourself the trouble

but if you have this is the tested method to get you back and running...it does require a hard reset so make sure to backup your data first

use the software in this link. Make sure you have CF 3.5 first (shouldnt be a problem for people on custom roms i know Juicy and Mighty's ROMS have it cooked in)

install the program (and cf 3.5 if needed)

put your phone into airplane mode run the software. Write down your msl

go to your dialpad and type ##786#, click menu and select Reset. enter in the MSL...you will hard reset...

LET THE PHONE SELF PROGRAM!

confirm your net works...RESTART

if you need the ## codes that are reinstalled by using DCD carrier cab installed dcd carrier cab...RESTART... navigate to windows/PPST.exe and delete that file

RESTART..confirm your net still works...The option to update the pri is still there but pressing it will do nothing...

Test your ## codes by going back to your dialpad and either pressing ##786# or ##3282#

this could def have an effect on your phone if you try to update the PRI...

A few days, I was using starrom and updated my prl through settings->connections. it totally f'ed up my data and all my settings in ##data#,it even changed my msl. i spent all day messing around with the phones codes til i gave in and called sprint. that was exactly what they had me do. good write up, it should help out alot of curious people like me that cant resist hitting a button that says update.

+1 did this on a custom rom myself.

For now if you take it into a sprint repair store messed up like this and you are stock and relocked the msl is changed from the default. They will hold your phone hostage for a few hrs then tell u they r ordering you a new phone.

I had my new msl so i just had them reprogram the phone and skipped out on the free phone replacement as the only thing wrong was internet did not work.

With TEP this does not cost u the deductable so this might be a way for people with scratched up phones to get a shiney new one without breaking something and having to pay the deductable.

As most sprint repair stores won't know how to get the new msl code therefore won't be able to reprogram it manually. Sense its a problem they can't fix by hard resetting and the phone actually works all but the internet should not have to pay a deductable to get shiney new phone.



I in no way endorse this method but know that it works, I almost went ahead and had them order me a new phone but with all the issues going around and my phone working fine for the 3 months that i have owned it. I felt like KARMA would bite me in the but and i wold get a defective phone for a replacement.

when people do things like that it only hurts you the customer through price increases...as of 4/19 the deductible through ausurion for PDA's will be 100 bucks...

thats a direct result of people performing fraud...

20 bucks in acc. will go a long way in preventing scratches...

just my 2 cents....as a tech for a sprint affiliate i see a lot of people just trying to get a "new shiny phone" with no real issues

I am still confused, is this prcedure for currupted MSL and PRI data errors. Is there a way to see the settings after, to compare when this is set and done.

Also I am running wm6.5(copper ROM), the codes don't work on my phone as it is....

I found his "two cents" to be very insightful, and it makes sense. He went out of his way to make a comment to save all of us money in the future and help sprint stay around much longer. Your attack on his comment was very unnecessary just as my post is to yours.

this is for fixing the corrupt msl error seen when trying to update pri using dcd sprint carrier cab...

if you have a custom rom chances are it doesnt have the ## codes built in...so that may be why you cant use them at this moment...

i cant confirm this works on 6.5 as i am running Juicy 6 right now...

im not sure what exactly your issue is...could you be more specific and i can see if i can help

in a nutshell all i did was use the program from my original post to grab my msl, ##RTN#(you may need to install the dcd carrier cab to get the ## codes to work first) reset, reprovision, either uninstall the dcd cab or delete the PPST.exe file in windows to break the update PRI function

Thanks "thelastpoet" that work on my phone. I did the PRL update and data stopped working. I even took it to the Sprint Store and they couldn't get it to work.

you can do the PRL update just fine

its the PRI thats a problem...i dont want people getting spooked to do a PRL update...those are harmless lol

Hey guys...
I'm very curious about this. If that Update PRI option is such a bad thing I wonder why it's included in some of the custom roms and i see the cab floating around a lot too. Do you know if it happens every time it's run, or is it just a random thing that might happen if someone runs it?

The "Update PRI" option is just a shortcut to PPST.EXE. The problem is that the dcd Sprint carrier cab installs the 2.04 PRI from the Mogul which obviously breaks newer phones. The only fix that worked for me was to install the 1.53 PRI from here:

and then run the Update PRI program again. After the 1.53 PRI was restored, I was able to go to ##3282# and restore my settings. There is no need to Hard Reset your phone to fix this issue.

Now someone comes up with this. I spent 4 hours researching how to find the msl that my phone got changed to and wound up editing some registry file and making it post an error log before i could get it. This will help alot for people with this problem.:headbang:=D>:headbang:

A MUCH easier way to get your MSL is to install the BAF MSL Grabber cab from here:

http://code.baf.cc/mslgrab/BAFMSL.cab

then just run the program (Start->Programs->BAFTools->BAF MSL Grabber) and click "Get SPC/MSL" and your MSL should appear on the screen momentarily. Some people have experienced issues or received errors on their first try. If you get an error, try doing a soft reset and running it as soon as the device boots back up.

THANK YOU!!!:) I used this and got the MSL, which then let me get in and reset the settings on the phone. Sprint was not even able to get the MSL from their system because the PRI Update changes it. Once again, great info from this forum.

edit: is there anyway to get my old msl code back? or is it forever changed?

Not realizing that DCDs cab installed the mogul PRI... I had this issue awhile back. I was able to restore my MSL by using CDMA Workshop (beware this is not a tool for a novice user!!!)

You only need the demo to do this and can dowload it from http://www.cdma-ware.com/workshop.html

when this happened to me changing the msl in workshop was only a temporary fix, didn't test fully, as I had a replacement in 2 days.

anyway, I made a basic cab to fix ##codes. I have only tested on my sprint touchPro, but it should work for others as it's only a reg and ppst.

I've been meaning to update on the MSL code. I installed a new ROM the other day and installed the DCD sprint carrier cab and my MSL code changed back.. So if you follow my previous procedure on page 2 and then reinstall the DCD cab, you'll be back to your original MSL and PRI.

the same reason anyone needs to install a carrier cab. It works fine until someone tries to do a pri update. I know it was made for the 6800 but it works great for the touch pro and diamond too. Lots of people are using it on the new EnergyRom right now.

it was not just made for the 6800, it was made for the 6800 with very specific files in very certain places or missing from ROM. and yeah, has that PRI.

i dont really know anything about the data corruption thing as i have never installed the mogul cab on another device. the cab i linked is what i use on TP. i cant say what effects it will have on whatever ROM you choose to install it on.

Yea...i got it. Thanks. Your carrier cabs are famous and i see them talked about in different forums all the time. Even on several different windows mobile devices. Thank you very much. I was a loyal DCD rom fan the whole time I had my 6800. You're awesome man.

I tried his rom yesterday and it was the fastest keyboard on the TP yet. No lag whatsoever. I just like Rhodium manilla now with the fixes though.

it was recommended in the energy rom thread for sprint users. maybe you know how to revert to the original settings since none of the ideas in this thread so far have worked for me?
