gmail university email setup?

I go to new york institute of technology, and our email system is setup through gmail. basically, my email address is "me@nyit.edu", but when i login, it goes to a gmail inbox setup for nyit. i tried using "mymail.nyit.edu" as the incoming, but i'm getting emails in that that i never even got in my web inbox, and on top of it, it won't sync anything that i have in the inbox. as for sending, i have no idea what to put there. has anyone had any success finding the correct settings for windows mobile?

Have you tried using the Gmail settings? Specifically these ones http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...n&answer=78886

Use the username@nyit.edu or whatever. Try that. If not ask your IT department at school for imap or pop settings

Re: gmail university email setup?

i emailed the it department at my school, and someone wrote back and said he had no idea (and this is a 25k/year school). The problem is, the logins have nothing to do with gmail, so logging into the email account with gmail settings will get me into my personal gmail account (it is the same account name, and password). When I use mymail.nyit.edu, it sends one email. doesn't forward new ones, just one, about something that i needed a few months ago. but i can't send anything. its really weird because i never got this email in my actual email box. I have no idea why.

i know that a lot of universities use gmail now, and was wondering if anyone else knew how to get this to work right with windows mobile.

i found this school uses the same email setup i believe... its not making a whole lot of sense to me though, in using anything from this for my problem.

Try these settings: no promises

incoming server: mymail.nyit.edu
outgoing server box for gmail you would use,: smtp.gmail.com:465

Next in the outgoing server settings you can specify a different username and password for your outgoing server which would be your username and password for gmail

Theoretically, this will work using any POP enabled email account as long as you have the proper server address, however, I do not guarantee that.

Let me know how that goes for you.

Re: gmail university email setup?

hey, thanks for the help, but its a no go.

this is such a weird setup. it connects, logs on and downloads that one random email, but nothing else..

when trying to send, it says "the messages could not be sent, check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. then try sending again."

with everyone having blackberries and pocketpcs and whatnot these days, you think that colleges would make it slightly easier to setup simple things like email addresses..

i use gmail for my domain email and have it setup on my phone

server type: IMAP4
incoming server: imap.gmail.com
outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com
username: your email address
password: your password
Outgoing server uses same credentials as incoming.

that should do it, let us know if it works.

That is how i have my setup for my Gmail accounts and for my school (University of South Florida). Like yours it is ran by Gmail but have a different login. Generally everything works as i am able to get new mail, download and send mail. For sending mail, make sure in the setup under Advanced Server Setup, you have Require SSl for Incoming and Outcoming check. I know for mine i am not able to send email if both of these are not checked. I am having issues where it times out randomly when downloading email so im going to take my phone to my school and see if there is anythign they can fix or change in the settings. Hope this helps.

I went to NYIT and I am not surprised they don't know how to help you.

I have been having huge intermittent problems with gmail on the TP. Gmail worked FLAWLESSLY on my old Rumour (I loved that phone. The battery lasted for days no matter how you used it.) All you did was go to the mail tab and it hooked up without a hitch.
Currently, I have cold booted the phone and have just begun to realize what a newbie I am at this. Cannot find anything..... Oh well.
