Reset mail count - how?

I've got a Touch Pro running the stock ROM with no TF3D customizations. I've set up an IMAP Gmail account (not IMAP pusher, just a regular account). Now, the mail counter goes no lower than 1 even if I've deleted every message in the account. When new mail comes in, it does correctly add each new mail to show a total of one more than is really there.

I've tried searching here for hints on how to reset the mail counter, but have come up with nothing.

I know there is a way but I cant remember now. Nor can I find it when searching. I had this problem after using the phone for a bit and now after syncing using google sync I have it again, any help out there?

have you touched the envelope icon on the top, and then the bigger icon when they pop up, then there should be an option to "dismiss" it. it should make it go away.....

Yes, sometimes the most obvious things end up being overlooked. This isn't the case with my problem, but it's always worth thinking about and mentioning.

I did eventually figure this out. The notification was for a "ghost" email account ("Outlook Email") that was set up when I enabled Google Sync. The phone automagically sent a "greeting" email to that account. Despite being visible as a new email, it wasn't directly accessible from the TF3D screen, most likely because it wasn't a usable account (no email servers were set up).
