New replacement, New versions :)

After getting my TP replaced due to rainbow effects in the first month on the screen i noticed a few different things

OLD | NEW
Build Date) 30-1-09 | 20-2-09
Screen) Colder | Warmer
Hardware Ver) 0002 | 0080

Edit: New one does NOT have a squiky back, slide is stronger, ear piece seems louder

More to come soon

wow...that's interesting. I'm about to get my alltel touch pro replaced for the same thing. I've had mine since it came out and just a week ago got the rainbow looking blob in the middle of the screen. My hardware version is 0002. I wonder what other differences there are with that 0080

I received a TP for a replacement of an Apache for my wife a couple days ago. I also noticed the PRL version is different. In my TP I have 60650 and she has 60651.

The new revision Sprint phones came out several months ago, with a similar story, better build quality, but a warmer screen.

yeah, i've had 2 of the newer tp's, and an older one. the older one felt slightly more flimsy, and had the colder screen. the new ones had the newer screen, and the sliding mechanism feels stronger. after a few months of use, the slider still feels new, whereas the old one was starting to feel like sand paper was rubbing in the tracks.

Warmer...as in color temperature? I like mine colder if that's what you mean. but if you meant with richer colors, then cool.

What are the radio and OS versions?

What is the hardware version on your phone?

My TP is hardware 0002 and was Manuf'd on 3/7/2009. I think it came with PRL 60650 but after clicking update you'll get 60652. I run 60610 though so I get EVDO roaming whenever I'm on Alltel. It doesn't hurt anything since EVDO on the Sprint side is provided by Alltel in this area.

I had to have mine replaced due to a camera issue. Manuf'd 02-17-09 hardware version 2.

Another thing i just noticed was the leds are also "warmer", personally i like bright and cold

edit: digiblur whos your provider? if its alltel how did you get 60xxx prls, 3xxxx comes with the phone and 4xxxx have sprint data roaming on it
edit2: ok i re-read the post and saw sprint on alltel... not alltel on sprint

Sprint is the provider here. I think there's about 4 or 5 areas like this in the US. They used to have the maps of these areas separate on Sprint.com to show additional EVDO areas. Not sure why they removed them though.

Basically the way it is setup the phone will lock onto voice on the Sprint towers, search for EVDO on the Sprint towers, if it can't find the EVDO on Sprint it will search the Alltel bands here for EVDO and lock on. Your phone will say Sprint with no roaming but if you look at the debug screen you will see EVDO is coming from the Alltel channels. For some reason in one of the PRLs around 60613 they removed the EVDO roaming in my area. So when I have no Sprint voice signal it goes to Alltel 1X for voice and data. I'm not sure why they did this but we use the EVDO anyways all the time so I keep an older PRL on that will roam on Alltel voice and EVDO for data when I have no Sprint coverage. It's not often I go to this one place where I have no Sprint coverage but it's nice to have EVDO when I need it.

Ok just got the replacement and it has more talk time on it than the one i am sending back has. Battery cover is squeaking though. It was built 27-Dec 08 with a HW Ver of 0080
