Mobile Speed Test
I got my results. 155 kbps. Pathetic. The average for Sprint is 646 kbps, which stinks compared to the other carriers. Is this a result of poor signal strength where I'm at? Would a new radio help? No wifi for me. Thanks for any help. Peace.

Re: Mobile Speed Test
Signal strength plays a part in it, as well as whether or not you are in Rev A coverage.
|
Re: Mobile Speed Test
Where did you get those numbers from? Like what website?
|
Re: Mobile Speed Test
Mobilespeedtest.com Evdo here. I got my TP when they 1st came out. Has Sprint released a new radio since and would that help?
|
Re: Mobile Speed Test
I just got 986, not too bad I suppose.
|
Re: Mobile Speed Test
Great. How many bars do you have and how old is yer TP?
|
Re: Mobile Speed Test
Mines 51.00 Kbps Wtf
|
Re: Mobile Speed Test
it does depend on your location in relation to the ev towers
|
Re: Mobile Speed Test
i just got 231kbps on the 1mb test. I've got a full signal and EV.
I've gotten much better results in the past, while sitting in the exact same spot I am right now. |
Re: Mobile Speed Test
Use dslreports.com/mspeed . I dont think mobilespeedtest is accurate, it said I was getting close to 2Mbps. dslreports had me at around 230kbps. I did change the tcp window size and my speed went up to 980kbps with dslreports test. It is in the middle of the day also.
|
Re: Mobile Speed Test
i ran the dslreports test and immediately followed with the mobilespeedtest test, both with 1mb transfer.
the dslreports test showed about 3 times faster. |
Re: Mobile Speed Test
dslreports is way more accurate
|
Re: Mobile Speed Test
What browser are you using? PIE always shows a faster speed than Opera. I remember reading somewhere on here PIE is more accurate. I forget the reason why....
PIE shows 986 kbit/sec and Opera shows 600 kbit/sec. I tried both a few times in a row and they are both consistently show those speeds. |
Re: Mobile Speed Test
Please do tell what TCP window size is? Big dummy here. Thanks

Re: Mobile Speed Test

Re: Mobile Speed Test
Depends on many things: Your signal strength, your location, the testing server's location (New York for mobilespeedtest.com), how the towers are working where you are, the browser you use, and chance. You can have very different speeds at different times of the day. It's just how it works on EVDO.
Just did a test: dslreports: 854 kbps My site (Mobilespeedtest.com): 1.82 mbps speedtest.net: 1.77 mbps The best thing to do is to run a few tests from different places and stick with the one that gives you the highest results. If you get results that are too slow from one site, then that site is not working well for you. You won't get results higher than your actual speed (unless you're using a proxy). In my case, results are more accurate from my site and speedtest.net than dslreports. You should be fine with internet explorer and opera mobile (or tethered). Opera mini and skyfire won't work. |
Re: Mobile Speed Test
i think tethering will give u the most accurate gauge as to what speeds your actually getting. ALso, you guys have to make sure you are reading the metric right...KBPS and Kbps are two different ways to measure transfer rates. A Kbps reading is going to be higher than a KBPS reading, even though they are measuring the same connection..
Also as stated, the speed depends on signal strenth, server loads, and the distance from the server, as well as a bunch of other factors. I have Sprint and ATT and Sprint is consistently faster. Usually between 650-1200 Kbp/s I dont use any speed test but Speedtest.net |
Re: Mobile Speed Test
I know this probably sounds newbish, but i have tried using dslreports and when i hit speed test it goes right back to the same screen again. How do i view the results ?
I have also tried speedtest.net and whenever i click to view results it does not show anything, just my Ip address and it says i never ran a speedtest... it also shows up in IE very distorted and hard to read. and BTW I got 957 kbps on 1mb with sprint on Mobilespeedtest.com |
Re: Mobile Speed Test
Teamvarsity: Choose lo-fi version, then speed test, then choose a speed, it'll tell you too fast for results, then click on choose "larger file" or whatever it's called, then 1MB.
Success: I agree, the great thing about speedtest.net is that they have tons of servers. The only down side is that you need to have flash, or be tethered. |

Re: Mobile Speed Test
i have a quick question, im tehered to my laptop and keep getting around .60kbps. Im in a rev a area and have 4 bars. My question is while on speedtest.net it keeps telling me im on a dial up connection, any ideas to speed things up??
|
Re: Mobile Speed Test
60 kbps? wow...that's about 10 times slower than it should be.
Are you sure you're not roaming? Did you by any chance do anything to force your phone on 1x? Is your Wi-fi on, connecting to some network with really crappy internet speeds? Are you getting the same results not tethered? If so, maybe you wanna try a new radio, or call Sprint. If I was getting 60kbps, I'd be complaining. |
Re: Mobile Speed Test
i use metro pcs and did mobilespeedtest.com says 947kbps..from the chart it looks good lol
|
Re: Mobile Speed Test
On mobilespeedtest.com I get random speeds when using any file smaller than 1 meg. the 3 meg option is broken. my speeds using the 1 meg file are odd to say the least.

Tethering is not the best way, because you have the limitation inside Windows that can lower your connection (TCP stack/window). Also, iin case people dont read the literature, the TP is good for up to 7.2mbps down and 2mbps up, so if youre getting, say 2287kbps (like me), there is nothing wrong with the test. Or your phone. Kilo BYTES is bigger than Kilo bits anyday. 1 BYTE is = to 8 bits. Just in case youre confused, the bigger letter (like in names, God vs god) is always the bigger measurement. kb - kilobit kB - kilobyte mb - megabit mB - megabyte and so on. Wiki link to back me up ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_rate_units |

Is that straight from the phone or tethered? What does speedtest.net tell you? There's gotta be something else going on... The 3MB test should be working fine now, PM me if you get any error message. Quote:
