Go onto the phone, then go to the settings, then go to connections, then usb to pc, the uncheck the box that says "Clear this check box if ActiveSync does not recognize the device"

Vista runs the mobile device center rather than activesync. That may be the problem.

What they both said, download wmdc 6.1 on microsoft and uncheck the box in USB to PC settings.

Re: I Can not figure this out for my life....

i tried all of that already.

when i pull up WMDC, all i get is a box that says

enable usb connections. i have that checked.
enable bluetooth connections. i have that unchecked.

i've seen other screenshots where people get some whole different stuff for their device center, which i guess pops up after the device is synced.

and then in the Sync Center, theres no partnership created, nor the option to create one.

i can sync seamlessly with XP no problem, so i know it's not the phone.

when i plug it up, the phone recognizes its connected, and says connected on the activesync screen, but when you press the Sync soft key, nothing happens.

i loved this phone to death until all of this. ive never seen a 600$ Smartphone have a problem with syncing.
thats the entire purpose of the phone in most cases. people buy them for the calender sync options, contact backup, tasks, etc.
you should plug a wire in to connect it, and press sync and be done with it!
ahhhhhh

and by the way, i really appreciate your help guys.
i posted a thread on XDA-Dev, a great site in its own right.
but after like 30 views, not a single person left a reply or anything to try to help me out.
you guys responded super fast. appreciate that alot.

Sometimes if you just change the usb port you are using it will recognize the device and sync up

i had issues just like yours. is your vista 32bit or 64 bit? mine is 64 and i could never get it to sync. i went to the mircosoft site and there was a different wmdc for 32 and 64. not sure what the differences are but after i made the switch i havent had any problems

what do you mean, like plug it back up in a different port on my tower?

i'm just mad frustrated cus i've been able to customize my phone pretty decently thus far, via .cabs and registry edits and stuff.

but i want to back all of my stuff up, for ease of use, and so i can finally flash my ROM and toss this ****ty sprint ROM.

hmm. never really thought about that.
my vista is 64bit.
i mean, i downloaded a version and i believe everythings up to date, but i'll have to double check on that when i get home and make sure i have the 64bit version.
