Big 'X' Button cab/app
 

We all as TP owners know how difficult it is to press the 'X' button in the corner to close apps (which is probably the most frequent thing I do on the phone). Does anyone know if there is a cab or registry entry or app or anything that enlarges the 'X' button. The TP has a flush screen with a recessed touch overlay that makes pressing the normal sized 'X' such a pain, sometime requiring me to press it three or four times to close the application since I have big fat fingers.

Do you have a mogul or TP looking at your profile? If you have a TP did you loose your Stylus? You might find somebody that could enlarge it , would require remapping that part of screen.

i dont know of an app, but i am surprised to hear of the trouble. the flush screen should make it easier. try this: when closing a program, leave most of your thumb off the screen, but with a little but on.

Sorry, never updated my profile :) I have a Touch Pro. It just seems like the 'X' button is too small. I was just wondering if there was some sort of reg entry or cab that could expand the button to make it easier to press.
Hibby, I tried you suggestion but I guess my fingers aren't as graceful as yours lol. PS love your ROMs!

i have the large "X" and "ok" button ur speaking of. its from winmo 6.5 i believe but its cooked into my ssk 1.5 rom. im not sure if there is a standalone cab for it but it is very convienent.

just unzip folder, drop file in your windows folder and soft reset.....

Didn't appear to do anything for me. Does the unzipped file need to be renamed from shellres.192.dll.0409.mui to something else?

I'm surprised that no one has come up with larger icons for the top row. I'm constantly having to hit the X more than once and hitting the message icon is near impossible if I'm using my thumb.

And I thought I was the only one with fat thumbs!

I just tried the DLL. It does give you the big X (or OK), but you have to turn off the Quick Menu in the Task Manager (Settings / System). It seems to take the same space, so it's just more visible, but doesn't seem to be any easier to hit (at least with my big thumbs)

It does change the WM Logo in the upper right to the white 6.5 icon as well and the wait icon to Vista's circle (with a black background)

if you want your start icon back, goto the custom taskbar thread and look on first page to pick what you want. the dll you need for start icon is shellres 192dll i think. ill look to make sure. edit, thats it. also first page tells you how to make your own. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=54514

I installed AEButton and this looks like it will do the trick! I assigned double press to the "hang up" button to close applications.
I would still like to see an enlarged close button if anyone comes across one. Thanks!

Only certain roms have it named that [shellres.192.dll.0409.mui] in most its called shellres.192.dll rename it to that and try again in your windows folder.

You should also go into your windows folder first with totalcommander or something and find the original shellres.192.dll and rename it to shellres.192.dll.old first just in case you want to restore it later.

It is rather easy to make the "x" button bigger, however the problem is mapping out the pixel area in which you have to touch for it to exit programs. Replacing the the .dll will only make the image itself bigger it will not make it any easier to close programs. I personally have no problems touching the "x" button but I could see how some of the larger fingered people could have a problem

honestly, functionality wise the large x button is great, but fcuk the design is bad, so pixelated and nasty looking. Wish the design was better though

Going out on a limb, but have you even tried re-calibrating the screen? Although it says to use the stylus for calibration, I use the tip of my thumb and usually find the results to be a lot better for my usage.

heres a nice cab for you guys, it changes to the large "x", large "ok", winmo 6.5 start icon, and vista wait cursor.

EDIT: according to chronster this is not uninstallable!!!

Is there a way to NOT have it replace my start menu icon and wait cursor? and if I uninstall the cab, will my custom start icon come back?

well I installed it. It didn't change the X on my stock sprint rom. Maybe you need a build 21000 or higher?

nah i dont think the build matters. i was running it on a 19xxx build for a week or so, sorry about not being able to uninstall man. i didnt know that

It's all good. I reinstalled my icons cab and it went over the other install. The cab you posted doesn't show up in the uninstall list, but there aren't any adverse effects from installing it other than that. I'll just forget it. Out of sight, out of mind lol
