Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
I have seen a lot of threads of people struggling to set up remote desktop. So I figured I would start a thread with my How-to. Hopefully it saves some headaches:)
Here is a step by step of at least what worked for me:smile: 1: goto www.portforward.com, select your router, skip the advertisment,Everything is alphabatized so Goto r's and select remote desktop. Now follow all instructions to forward port 3389(thanks for the link dagnasty!!) 2: IMPORTANT!! This caused me major headaches. After your router firewall is setup, MAKE SURE your software firewall is as well ie. windows firewall, norton etc. If you don't you will be doing this](*,) 3: go into start menu/ control panel/ system/ now select system(from classic view for vista and 7 users) Goto remote settings and enable the computer to recieve remote connections 4: Goto (http://whatsmyip.org/) (thanks Denasqu) Write down your IP Update if you are trying to get vnc working just swap to vnc instead of remote desktop in post 1  5: Goto your comm manger on touch pro and make sure your phone data connection is enabled! Also caused me a massive headache lol 6: Goto remote desktop on your touch pro and run it. Goto options and select Hi Color 16bit or your screen will look funky(Here's a link to the cab if you don't have it: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment...2&d=1226336958) 7: Now under the main screen where it says computer: enter your ip that you wrote down( not the local one ie 192.168.... the one you got from whatsmyip.org) under user name enter the name you use to log onto your user account on the computer you are trying to remote control. Enter Your password under password. I left domain blank. Note: You have to have a password I believe. 8 Hit connect and Enjoy!!!!=D> Note: Windows XP Home does NOT contain Remote Desktop. So it won't work with these instructions :) Hope this helps my fellow noobs!! |
Re: Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
Good job, thanks for the post.
Haven't tried it out yet, but i have been thinking about it for quite some time. -s |
Re: Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
Thanks mate!
Just tried it and it works, but it takes over the pc, anyway to prevent that? Also, it is really, really slow... any way to speed it up? |
Re: Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
What are you using for #6? Maybe a link to a cab Thanks.

Re: Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
it is built into winmo.
go to programs tab and left soft key for "All Programs" and look for "Remote Desktop Mobile". |
Re: Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
hmm, I always wondered about this, because people were always talking like it is already on the phone. I guess I got a dud lol, only thing with "r" is the rss thing....
Any suggestions?? I'm on the stock Sprint rom btw |
Re: Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
Ah, it may not be on the stock ROM, I changed to a custom ROM quite a while ago so I don't remember. It would probably not be worth trying to run it on the stock ROM anyway, it is slow enough on a custom ROM.

Re: Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
another alternative is www.logmein.com and sign up for the free remote access...works like a charm from the TP...use it couple times a day

Re: Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
I have had a LMI account for years and use it religiously on my work pc to connect to home pc for surfing purposes  but never knew I could access from my TP.
Thanks! |
Re: Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
trying the LMI, i'm in an endless loop with the cab install, can you use opera??? it installs, but the website keeps saying i need to install the cab..... nevermind, It works on explorer. pretty neat.

It works pretty well if your patient. I use it to set my media center recordings and show people pics from my library |
Re: Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
Just a thought on the taking over the pc part. Depending on what you want to do you can set it up to route audio to the desktop Ie use your TP as a media player remote..... Its under options resource tab . Change remote desktop sound to play on remote desktop.

Re: Easy Step by step for noobs like me. Remote Desktop
I apologize...I feel like I followed your directions exactly and yet I can't seem to access my computer. While trying to connect on TP I get the following message...
Cannot connect. Likely reasons are: 1. The remote computer is not set up for this. 2. Reached maximum number of connections. 3. A network error occurred while connecting. Any ideas? the computer is setup to allow remote access. |
