Must KILL VOICE COMMAND!!

Okay, I am getting so fed up with this, I disable (useless) voice command on my Touch Pro, but everytime the stupid button on my htc headset that came with it gets tapped, it re-enable VC, and has gotten me to make several calls I didn't want the stupid thing to make in the first place...

Any cabs, hacks or anything that can remove this confounded application?

I find that voice command stuff like what they use when you call customer service for something only understands me when I get so aggravated I start yelling at it...then I seem to have power over it...

Did you try setting the button to <none>?

yes, I did. I need to completely wipe out the worthless app, or corrupt it so it can never be activated or something

i love voice command... "call _____ mobile" works everytime. i tend to actually lose my phone because of it. how are you hitting your headset button so much that its a problem? don't you have to like push it and hold it?

I like it but have you tried unchecking all of the options, then password protecting it?

Jesus just tried it, that's a no go.

Did you try unchecking everything under VC and unchecking enable after you set the button to <none>?

Re: Must KILL VOICE COMMAND!!

Launch File Explorer

Go to My Device>Windows>Start Menu

Delete the voice command shortcut.

Reboot your phone.

Hope that helps. I hate VC as well.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I think Voice Command is one of the best features of the phone. I'm amazed it works as well as it does. On my Mogul I had to record a voice tag for people I called frequently, and 75% of the time it wouldn't recognize me when I'd repeat the name, but Voice Command recognizes every one of my contacts with NO tags. I love it.

Re: Must KILL VOICE COMMAND!!

Alrighty, here's what happens, I get in the car with the headset on, put my seatbelt on, start driving and as I breathe, randomly, the button get pushed between my jacket and the seatbelt, and my chest, cant see where the dumb thing is every second of the day, right? lol.

Anyway, yes I have unchecked everything, put in the password protect, etc, but its just been too freakin easy to hit the button on the headset randomly, which re-enables VC all over again. I'll give a shot at removing it from the start menu, but I have my doubts.

Thanks for your replies, people! Hopefully this issue will be over real soon!

I think the real issue here is that you are driving and talking on the phone at the same time :P

Re: Must KILL VOICE COMMAND!!

There's a button on the phone that activates voice command? I've never noticed. I use it only from my Bluetooth (far from useless, it's one of the most necessary features on my phone), and have never once accidentally activated it on the phone. Occasionally I brush the button on my headset, but then I just say "cancel" and I'm good to go.

What button activates it on the phone?

If you hold the talk button it activates it I thought.

That is a useless post he doesn't care who likes it he wants to get rid of it and to the op if you ever reflash and need a new way go to your startup folder and find the target for the voicecommand file then delete it and also delete it out of your startup then set the button to none that should be a simpler less risky way.

I went through a few motions (maybe not specifically the one you're talking about) but as a system file it can't be edited or removed in any sort of way from what i've tried, but to delete the regs still worked (any other type of disabling still left the button on the headset able to restart the .exe file itself). Maybe it's something i missed, what's the specific way you're speaking of?

i have the same problem, i use the regular headset the phone came with and wear the wire under my shirt at work, when i pick stuff up like heavy boxes the button always gets pressed and it starts ringing. it drives me crazy! I have to drop the box, reach in my pocket, and try to end the call before its too late. i end up doing it every 2 seconds

Hahaha...dude, I only talk on the phone while driving using this headset = hands free = safe = legal. Wish more people would just do that these days, rather than texting while driving, headsets are so much nicer to talk and listen with anyway, even off the road. Idk why, but so many people I know look at me wierd when I suggest a like a a simple $8 headset, as if I'm suggesting something really difficult to do, when it's just a simple matter of putting it on their hear, and pluging it in the phone and they're all set to go...idk, people these days make no sense, right? lol...I'm straying off topic...

Anyway, yes I have disabled the send button as a VC button, as I said before, I disabled everything, but it still pops back on if the button on the headset gets pressed.

Did you find any of the folders at all?? I apologize for not remembering where the 5 or 6 i deleted were but if you really want it gone, just go through each folder and everything that says voicecommand delete it.

This is why I use my vogue headphones plus they let you control the volume too. I love VC but it can be annoying sometimes.

FYI, recent studies have shown that using a hands free device while driving is worse than simply holding the phone. It has to do with how you view what is going on around you and your mental involvement in the call. It seems that holding the phone makes you more aware of the fact that you are doing something other than driving, where as a hands free device makes you more comfortable and more likely to become more involved in the conversation and less aware of what is going on around you.

Not trying to be a troll, just thought I would mention it since it was just recently mentioned to me and I dont think many realize it. Plus, mentioning it might make people more aware of it.

but we must keep in mind this is based on a small number of people, not all of us are the same, and not all of us are willing to get into an in-depth conversation while driving (I'm certainly not), many of us just need to be able to in case theres another errand to run or something quick to be alerted about. We're not all the same...

I would imagine if you just use resco to rename the voice command .exe in the windows folder that would probably do the job

WOW, I guess we shouldn't talk to the person riding shotgun either then............

I also hated VC, after it dialed the wrong number three or four times (when I wasn't trying to call anybody) I couldn't wait to dump it.

I cooked a new ROM & didn't include VC & the problem was solved.

Re: Must KILL VOICE COMMAND!!

I don't hate VC nor do I love it. However, I have never accidentally activated it. I sometimes use the headphones that came with it to listen to music. But while driving I use my bluetooth headset. I just recently discovered that holding down the talk button activates VC. I forget where I read that (not on PPC geeks). The reason I don't love the program because it doesn't always recognize my commands it will say "Please Repeat" I do and it still doesn't. Aside from that happening occassionally I actually think it is a good program that offers more than just calling people in your contacts.

As for what to do to disable it. I agree with all of the suggestions here. Maybe although I doubt it Microsoft may have a KB on removing it. Check their site for any instructions or check out the Total Access for Microsoft users another poster might have the same issue and a MS rep may have responded with a solution.

Is the voice command icon still there in the settings? After i soft reset once or twice it just stopped working, i can't activate it to save my life. I also used total commander to attempt to delete it and also to try and rename the .exe file, although it didn't let me do it i'm starting to think that played a part in why it doesn't work anymore. Try to soft reset a couple times and try to re-activate it, there are about 8-10 voice command folders i believe in the registry so make sure they're all gone and then use total commander to try edit the .exe file and see if that helps, it never let me do it but like i said, i think it helped to kill it. Let me know.

EDIT

Just for further confirmation i attempted to use voice command with my bluetooth headset as well and it wouldn't do anything. To elaborate on what to do with total commander, find the exe file in the windows folder, make sure it's not set to "read-only" anymore, then attempt to rename and delete it. Guarantee i don't have voice command anymore.
