Is it possible to view PIMBackup files (.pib) with a Text Editor?

I want to reread a conversation I had while texting a few weeks back but it seems that I can't find a program to open the .pib file that PIMBackup saves as.

i still haven't been able to find an answer to my question :/ but lately i started using microsoft's My phone to back up my contacts and look up my texts.

the next time i reflash to a new ROM, i'm going to load up all my PIMBackup files and then back it up to My Phone, so i'll kind of be transferring the files over.

im just gonna go out on a limb here because i have no idea either, but would it be as simple as using WINCE to rename the file?

PIB files are just zip files. So copy the file to the desktop and rename it to *.zip. Extract the zip file, and you should be able to read the contacts. I don't backup any messages, so I don't know how to go about reading those, but I was able to read the contacts in excel. They were semicolon delimited.

Should just be able to get winrar to unarchive it without having to rename. I believe i have done this before with other file formats following the same process.

You're right. I did it with 7zip which should be about the same. Once I expanded the pib file all the categories ( Contacts, Tasks, Messages ) were separate sub files. Messages was a pbm file. I opened it with Excel, specified comma delimited and was able to read the messages with all the associated info such as sender, phone number, etc. It's not pretty but it works.
