sending a HOT tpuch pro back to Assurion.... autoclave?

they've been great to deal with and it's nice to upgrade from a 6700 to the 6850

however, this first one won't go three hours on a battery and it gets hot both while charging and using it as a phone

seems to shut itself off at 130 degrees

poked about and seen others had similar issues with various touch pro's and the reset stuff worked well for charging and of course taking the back off made a huge difference

still too hot and it does need help

prior to sending this one back and it does have some prioritary information on it that I simply cannot take any chance of it being recovered by anyone

is there anything like autoclave for these?

They'll get over having to reload an OS on it

Hard reset, it will wipe all of the info. Keep your storage card, they won't want that back anyway.

yes I understand that but I am thinking that does not really assure me what's been previously written absolutely cannot be recovered.......

I'd feel better with it wiped absolutely clean and written with all zeros

Thats what a hard reset does. Cleans it to the bone as if you just got it out of the box!

Re: sending a HOT tpuch pro back to Assurion.... autoclave?

has anyone subjected a WM device to a data recovery program like "recover my data" or "recover my files" or any of the others subsequent to a hard reset to see just how clean a hard reset actually cleans it?

I'm thinking I'd feel better sending it back completely blank and scrubbed

are you a spy sir? ;)

Not a spy, but I do use my ppc for work and I did, just knowing this TP would be just fine, end up with some classified info related to govt contract work on it.

I have procured a copy of dban, burn and nuke, and am higly considering utilizing it on this phone. Short of that it will have to be run over by a car since I have zero desire to pay just under 6 bills for a virtually useless hand torch of a phone.

I find it hard to fathom nary another soul has been in a similar situation.

I have access to an autoclave if you want to use. I would love to see what a touch pro looks like after being under 27 psi of pressure and 272 degrees >=D

Re: sending a HOT tpuch pro back to Assurion.... autoclave?

I could run it through a 100 ton press for you.... then maybee throw it in the kiln at 1500 degrees, that might assure total data loss

I thought the DOD and CIA weren't to worried about losing data these days.....I admire you for your personal integrity though...... from my experience to lose all your data...just drop the damn thing onto pavement.....always worked for me...(not on purpose though)

Re: sending a HOT tpuch pro back to Assurion.... autoclave?

trust me after a hard reset, theres nothin to be done to retrieve the data... if it waas possible, dont u think we woudve figured out that work around a long time.. afterall weve all lost valuable data through having to hard reset as a last resort to something going wrong..

and autoclave is a program isnt it? hes not talking about usuing a machine to sterilize his phone... and im willing to bet you send it in without an OS on it, youll get charged the 150

Re: sending a HOT tpuch pro back to Assurion.... autoclave?

it being an insurance owned phone to be returned would then result in me having to pay for the damages unless it too is covered the same as my own actual phone while "their" phone is in my possession

anyone know all the ins and outs of the insurance deal?

Re: sending a HOT tpuch pro back to Assurion.... autoclave?

I'd pay the 150 just to not worry with it

they are implying it's just under 6 bills

Re: sending a HOT tpuch pro back to Assurion.... autoclave?

and yes, autoclave is a program to wipe a hard drive completely clean

I also have programs that will recover info from hard drives that have been reformatted and written over several times

if it hasn't been wiped, there is certainly the possibility it can indeed be recovered

as much as we think and want them to be, our phones are not computers.. i know what u mean about going into a PCs hidden spaces and retrieving the data that someone think they erased, so i understand what progs like that were made.. at the same time, our phones dont have 80-300+gbs of extra storage to hide all the info in.. i dont think "their" that interested in mobile traffic right now.. give it a few yrs and im sure we'll need things like that..

if you have the programs, why don't you try a hard reset and see what info you can recover from it then?

but as far as the flash storage based devices, running windows mobile, it is near impossible to retrieve data after a hard reset.

Bond... James Bond...

If you are that worried about it then make a TEP claim on the phone. It will cost you less than $100 and you will get a new phone without having to provide them your old one. Just tell them it was stolen.

Also, have you tried flashing a custom ron on it? The stock roms make the TPs run pretty damned hot, but I have not had a moment where mine has felt anything more than slightly warm since I flashed the new 1.11F radio and a custom rom.

the storage in this phone is 100% opposite of the way a hard disk works..

this phone uses persistant storage,, information is basically stored in the memory of the phone through electrical capacitance,, in a manner of speaking,,,

once the device tells a memory location to delete,, it is ghost... like it never existed...

on the other hand a hard drive,, is made up of platters that store information through magnetism,,, the drive is made up of individual sectors and a boot sector... when a file is stored on a hard drive,, there is the file itself that is stored in a section of sectors,, and then a descriptor file is placed on the drive around the boot sector.. this information tells the computer quickly where a file is stored at on the drive,, what sectors it is in,, the size of the file etc... when you delete or quick format a drive,, it doesnt wipe the file off, it only deletes the descriptor file so that your o/s cant locate it anymore,, these dod programs that wipe drives basically go through all the sectors writing dead data to all the sectors so the the deleted files can not be pulled back up,,,

so you dont have to worry on your phone,, once it is deleted it is gone forever and ever and ever,,, oh and ever

Re: sending a HOT tpuch pro back to Assurion.... autoclave?

my biggest question is why is such "sensitive" material to you stored in a device thats so easy to hack.. maybe not easy for me,lol, but for people who want that kind of info..

Paris Hilton, Fred Durst, and others were hacked a few yrs back remember..... and more recently Obamas twitter account

i used to work for a record company and did 2 National Tours, i have phone numbers, for alot of the nations top artists, and all their contact info and their people too.. ive returned serveral phone to sprint, never got a phone call yet or heard a story from them about random phne calls or the numbers ending up on the web or anything like that..
