Cox outgoing email SOLVED!
Ok, if this has been posted i just couldn't find it. this is my first post and i apologize if this has been covered. just trying to help. I spent hours today trying to find a solution. as a lot of you might already know cox blocks outgoing email through their server unless it is sent on their network. this is to help prevent spam.
this is fix is for anyone who can recieve email on their phone with their cox email but cannot send. first thing to do is to go into your account setup on the phone. go through and enter all your login info. setup the incoming settings as pop.xxxx.cox.net, where as xxxx = east, west or central depending on your location. next when you get to the outgoing mail setting you need to check both boxes, "outgoing server requires authentication" and "use same settings for sending e-mail" then in the outgoing server field you want to enter this EXACTLY, smtp.xxxx.cox.net:465 again...xxxx is replaced by east, west or central depending on location. now at the bottom of the screen click on advanced setting and check the box for "require SSL for outgoing e-mail" ONLY this box. leave the incoming email box unchecked. make sure the network connection type is "The Interenet" hit done and go through the rest of the last couple setup option and you're done. you should be able to both send AND receive email through your phone for your cox account. hope this helps someone. |

Thanks for the post. I don't normally add my Cox accounts on my TP, but there is that rare occasion I need to add it on the fly to check mail and respond to E-Mails...and I can't stand using their Webmail.

Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!
Yes, but having it go directly to the phone is better...better control of checking the mail, deleting from server, keeping from server, etc.
We were in the same boat as other folks that connect their ISP's mail account to their TP since Sprint discontinued their mail servers. Also, this is better since it is now going directly through the ISP servers and you won't have the recipient of one of the sent E-Mails possibility seeing "sent on behalf of" since you're relaying through another server. |

Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!
Still working on it, it took forever to get them to give me he, stupidest instructions for Outlook 2007, it's not supported, but try this? When I asked about my Htc Touch Pro, that's when they cut me off. At least I knew someone here or on another forum would have them. Any Good Updates out there?
Thanks for the settings! |

Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!
OMG.....I GET IT.....YOU HAVE TO PUT
smtp.east.cox.net:465 In the box...EXACTLY HOW I TYPED IT ABOVE DONT FORGET THE :465 It made all the difference... YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....LET ME SEARCH HOW TO DISABLE opera mobile |
Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!
OK, I have a ppc and verizon is my phone server, cox is my email server, this solution didn't work for me. Verizon is pointing to Cox and Cox is pointing to Verizon. 6 calls and several hours later, I still don't have a solution. Both are telling me just to use gmail when on my phone...that's not an acceptable solution to me. Thoughts?

Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!
I am a former alltel now verizon by merger customer...and as of 9/1/09 the incoming mail server for cox is now not working ....pop.east.cox.net is the one I have used for 3 years... Anyone know if cox or verizon has changed something?
|
Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!
I figured it out myself....I hadto add the server port number :110 to the end so my pop3 incoming mail is working with
pop.east.cox.net:110 Hope this helps others in the future... |
Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!
Sorry, this did not work. I went through and verified all settings and attempted to send a test e-mail. I did not get an error message this time but the mail never reached my wifes account. I waited an hour and attempted it again. Still no luck!

Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!

Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!

Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!
Thank you so much -- my new HTC HD2 was lost and lonely without my cox.net account.
You put an end to my 2-day search. THE KEY: DELETE your cox.net account on the HTC HD2 and START AGAIN from the main window found at: Start --> E-Mail THANK YOU AGAIN.. you ROCK! :headbang: This old hippy is happy now, man.. |
Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!
Thank you Thank you Thank you! I have fought with the Verizon guys for years and they keep telling me it is my phone was too old, and I needed to use mobile email or gmail/yahoo. Ticking me off, knowing they didn't know what they were talking about.
It totally worked and now I can send and receive email. Thank you so much. sherrie |
Re: Cox outgoing email SOLVED!
I have a Samsung Continuum which is in the droid family. My Cox mail has already been setup but I'm experiencing the issue of not being able to send. When I tap on email and then bring up the settings there is absolutely no where to modify incoming or outgoing servers so I can add the :465 to the outgoing server.
Any Ideas? |
